Since I was a little child, I've always thought... That they only way to get hapiness, is a simple, but pleasent life. A life without money, without people opressing eachother... Freedom, a secure life... A life where you don't own anything.. A nomadic life..
Is it just me that think like this?

You aren磘 the only think about that, sometimes i think that. :)
But in order to achieve that, we must do a total revolution to everything! And i dont doubt that we can do it

Sounds idyllic, I would love to do it. Anything to escape the alienating force of modernity.

Wow... I thought it was just me. Only living on food and shelter, making love all day and brining fruit and other good stuff.. Make some tea... Read some books... Listen to some music... Not own a thing... All you think of is life and love.. That's life..

I would find such a life physically pleasurable, but intellectually unstimulating.
Anything to escape the alienating force of modernity.
What precisely do you mean by this?
Pedro Alonso Lopez
12th May 2004, 18:21
I mean that modern consumerism and work is alienating. Its one of Marx's main ideas by the way. In fact its one of his more philosophical interesting contributions.
Why would it be not intellectually stimulating, you would have more time to think?

But in this 'simple world' could you apply your complicated thinking to the real world? IE actually put scientific speculation into practice?
Pedro Alonso Lopez

Personally I have no interest in science so it wouldnt bother me.

Science is one of the things which seperate us from animals.

it could get a bit boring. I don't know if anybody's seen "Big Fish", but the poet in that "perfect town" had no creativity power at all. He used to be good, but too much perfection and happiness made him dull. this just made me think of that. A little suffering every now and then is human.

If we forget about science then reason and rationality will be pliable concepts... to be manipulated at the will of some snake-tongued demagogue with an ulterior motive. It is the yardstick with which we measure the Universe.

But you told me science seperates us from animals for what reason?

no conciousness and the ability to rationalize is my friend, science is everywhere!

No 'science' isn't everywhere (Any more than 'justice' is a substance) but science allows our rationality to be applied to the real world, ie the one we currently see, feel, hear and smell
Without science we have nothing to base our 'rationality' on.

I think I will agree with you  , but we seem to be going around in a cirlcle of relativeness! ;)
my point is that the abitity to rationalize does enable us to subject science on the physical world. :)
Do you agree?
I don't really care too much to live in the forest or be with nature. A little bit of simplicity is fine with me but I like to experience the world while benefitting the masses.

this is what u wrote in chitchat:
living in a Communist society, I would like to have:
CLA (for decrease in fat and increase in muscles)
Moped
Swimming pool
Additional (recreational needs):
Massage therapist (?)
Psychologist
Prostitute
A little, simple hut
A job, working in a resturant
That basically sums up everything.
Isn't that a bit antithetical towards what u think here? :D
I suppose you could "possess" or "access" those items/things/people in a communist society; however, a personal swimming pool is not necessary and really is a waste. Now if thousands could have access or if it was one of those "small" pools a person could see in FLorida, than It should be open to many and not just for a private family as it is a resource hog. And wtfuck is CLA?

Ya...a personal swimming pool is negative to communism, negatively related to frugal and simple living too. <_<
We see lots of people who call themselves leftists just because they wanna be cool or something. These thinkings need to be fixed before we can embrace one as a comrade.

I used to think that nomadicy would be cool. I was even going to write a nomads bible (kick people out of cities and then burn them (among other things)). But nomads are not nessaserily anymore environmentally better then people who just stay at one place. (which was a major reason for going nomadic in my opinion). Staying in one place has the advantage of being able to have a 'modern-technological' society. This can be created while still keeping the agricultrale (sp?) 'ideal' that many people crave. (Believe me, farming is not all it is cracked up to be, even small scale farming.)

what an idiot...
Please do clarify your statement. Do you mean that I am an idiot? Or perhapes one of the other posters? Do you have any reasons for your statement? If so can you please explain. If you think that a post is incorrect, please provide (in your opinion) the correct facts. If you think a post is stupid, explain why. But please don't proved a three word answer to any thread outside of chitchat (two exceptions, it is extreamly witty and/or funny or it contains an argument that is extreamly insightful or interesting; note, it is better to provide substance to your post even if you match one or both of the exceptions).
it was a reply to what fidelbrand wrote about justice's post in chit chat and this one.
I thought that justice was an idiot for wanting a swimming pool, prostitute, moped and then saying in this thread. Oh, the simple life is what i want. Not that i mind changing view i just think that wanting a prostitute is wrong.

Thank you crossfire.
And as to the post below it, I think that the concept of science and religion being only human concepts are invalid.
Just because *we* (as humans) can not comunicate with, say, dolphins, it does not mean that dolphins are stupid. And because we can not communicate with dolphins we can not know if they have either religion or science. In fact I would suggest that they have both these 'human' qualities. But I can communicate with them, so I can't prove it. But you can't disprove it and the majority of evidence is on my side.

true apathy, however
A cat can not concieve the concept of why it exists, this thought doesn't enter its mind, allthough we struggle to explain it we can think about it,
