If the UK tried to lower American influence and/or stopped being such a lapdog to the Americans?

Be in trouble. They would no longer have the ally in the EU to help in controling EU politics and angendas.
They would also be alone. No scapegoat to blame things on. it would be World VS America

Then how can we get the UK to do something in order to isolate America?

In reality we just have to wait. I am sure a lot of brits will vote for a primeminister who who doesn't want to be a US lapdog. The war in iraq had shed light over that situation.

If the British were to denounce the US publicly, they would gain a lot more friends on their own continent. Then the US would do something stupid again, like boycott quasi-british products, burn Beatles albums, all that.

Britons are fed up with the current relationship - because it is seen as all being one way.
I think britons still want to be friends with america... just is they want something back.
Next election - well i can't see Howard being that close to Bush; there may be a little break down.

really hard to imagine and really hard to guess, but behind all the political curtains, and according to all we have seen from UK in history,I think it's US that is UK's puppet.
