<----Victor Jara!!!
You definitely need to check this brutha out!
If you're looking for a disc, I'd just go with Manifesto or a best-of.
If you download music files, look for El Pimiento, Preguntas por Puerto Montt, Plegaria a un Labrador, En Derecho de Vivir en Paz, Que Lindo es Ser Voluntario, En el Rio Mapocho, Luchin, Herminda de la Victoria, La Palmatoria, Manifesto, Cuando Voy al Trabajo, and Hasta Siempre.
For anyone who isn't familiar with Victor, he was a communist Chilean folk singer who was killed in September 11, 1973 by the CIA-led overthrow of the democratically-elected socialist president of Chile, Allende. Victor Jara, Salvador Allende and hundreds of other leftists were killed that day.
Also look for Violeta Parra for more great '60s leftist Chilean folk music.

Wow, thanks everyone for the recommendations... Victor Jara seems very interesting, thanks for sharing the story. I'm downloading some of his music right now, but I have dial-up, so it'll be a while until I can hear it. Thanks again.

Awesome man!
Not too many people seem to mention him here. I think his music is some real good shit. Ever listened to his version of Pablo Neruda's "Poema 15"? If you haven't, try downloading it. One of my favorites.

Alot of reggae has alot proliterian roots and revolutionary messages in it, but I am so bad with names you are just going to have to check it out and see what you like. I can sing songs to you and what not, but thats the thing with reggae, I never get the name.
