View Full Version : What Should Do When They Sing The Tikva?

At the end of the May Day march, most of the demonstrators sang the "Tikva", the Zionist anthem. The anti-zionists were in a dilema.

We just sat on the side and didn't interrupt the people singing. One of the comrades tried to sing the Internationale over the Tikva, but we stopped him telling him the Internationale will be sang in two minutes.

The anarchists on the other hand had several levels of provocations: a few sat on the floor in protest. Some yelled "Zionism! Racism! Zionism! Racism!". One of them raised his hand in a "Heil Hitler!" movment.

All were hit and kicked by the Working Youth - the social-zionists.

What do you think we should do whenever the Tikva is played?

Make a re-edit of the song? And then roar that out when they sing it. Not a mocking re edit, but something serious.

no, my point was by next time you will have won the masses over! :D therefore the singing would be easy, as you would be the majority, and it would be funny to see this minority of fascists to kick you, as by then you would have your own stewarding, and with this defend yourselves and smash em up!

Easier said than done Kez.

The stuff the anarchists did seems kinda like trying to interrupt the Zionist anthem or stop people from singing it. It's especially foolish for a minority to try to censor the majority. The equation with fascism is also false, of course.

But on the other hand, to do nothing can be misinterpreted as agreeing, or at least condoning. If one doesn't respond to an idea, it's easy to start adapting to it.

Maybe the solution would involve having more explicitly anti-Zionist signs, songs, etc, to respond and express opposition to Zionism before and after they sing the anthem? Or even during, as long as it's not trying to interrupt them (signs rather than shouting).

Edit: 'course you might haveta defend yourself from some people no matter how you express it.

I'd have booed, hissed and heckled them. Zionism is Nazism for Jews and should not be tolerated at all.

Heil Ben Gurion!
