dien bien phu was a master trap set by the french to draw Giaps army in to the open where they could be destroyed. The french belived that they had all the firepower they needet to destroy the Viet Mhin. Giap however "traped those who whised to trap us, killed those who whished to kill us and captured to those who whised to capture us" as a Vietnames poem goesl. The french broke thier own back there by sending in thier last elite reserves and north vietnam became free
