Metal as the type you have described can be loosely fitted under one genre, poo!

Metal music is stale, boring and pointless. Loud distorted guitars, whiny little ugly *****es whining about how their dads raped them and girls dont like them or what variety of virgin they will be sacrificing today.

metallica is metal... you cant say that theyve got sloopy guitars, etc.

anyway im listening alot to norwegian black metal for the moment like bleedience, tømmermenn, malais, in_zekt, my dying bride and some others which name i cant remember... i think dimmu borgir is prettty lousy, as they admit they are just posers, and their newest music isnt very good either... selling out like the rest of the world..

malais has some very good music, going under the unfamiliar genre "depressive black metal"... my absolute favorite death metal band is children of bodom, which are pretty known, and the closest to "mainstream" as real death metal can get...

and black/death/doom/etc metal is supposed to sound like utter trashy noise to those who hasnt gotten into it... so it is written... i would have given you the name of the book, but you dont understand norwegian so... these forms of metal is an offspring from different forms of satanism,
satanism=create chaos, these metal forms=chaos, you know where im getting at....

A lot of the 'old' metal bands are actually alright. Metallic, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc.

Even some more modern metal bands such as Opeth are quite impressive.

As for these: "soulfly, sepultura, slipknot, cradle of filth, dimu borgir, vader."

I never quite liked that stuff myself. It all seems a bit 'drudgy', and, to me at least it just sounds like 'noise'.

But, each to his own, if you like it, then that's fair enough.

I've gone off metal, there's something about it that seems quite naff, and it's generally not so politically conscious as punk and hardcore, but that's only my impression and I might have completely the wrong end of the stick.

Some old metal is good, (metallica, ac/dc) But todays stuff sucks. At my school, all the nazi's are metal heads, that's probably what gives me idea that almost all of it sucks.

even though some metal isnt that far from hardcore, i cant stand the shit
im a hardcore kid through and through, but metal just pisses me off
cant even come up with a creative breakdown and hardcore is so much more wholesome

yeah I agree with the Naff part, especially Nu-metal....but yeah Metal will always have alot of nostalgic value for me (even if I can't listen to it anymore) because it was a big part of my life for about 5 years, so I still get a little annoyed when people say things like :

*ahem* look at yourself sir/madam, did you ever stop to think that it is people who hold sweeping, generalised views such as these who alienate so called "metalheads" and ultimately spawn a greater attitude of negativism. Like I keep saying over and over again, if you want to convince people to adopt your point of view you must extol upon them the virtues of your position, not simply take the line "your's is fucked"!!!

I wouldn't consider AC/DC metal, more funkrock. But I listen to old school metal and Sepultura. I really like Sepultura. Mmm.. Sepultura.

To generalise' The majority listens to Hip Hop, Rap, RnB, Pop. There are a few alternatives, better known by the populair term "alto's", I am among them. Who listen to rock. There are even fewer extreme rightwingers who listen to hardcore.

But the school isn't extremely divided, 90% is Hip Hop and the rest alto and skinnies. There is a lot of contact between the different groups. I myself talk with everyone, from the skinheads to the hip hoppers and even socialize with them outside school. Even with some nazi's. I am a foreign commie dude :)

I used to be a metaltead... well, I still love metal but not as much as I used to (and I don't have long greasy hair anymore ;) ). Basically, 80's metal and thrash is what Im into the most. Slayer, Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Danzig, Venom, Possessed, Manowar, Anthrax, Sodom, Laaz Rockit, Judas Priest, etc. Im also into some of the newer death/black/doom metal and grind but its really an acquired taste and something I have to be in the mood for.

I hate nu-metal and addidas rock.

I used to listen to the Metuhl, and yeah, I got out of it. I met Dani Filth once, Nile to. Nile was cool, I watched two drunks get into a fist fight and we did commentary. That Dani dude is short as fuck.

Anyway, just a stupid little fact, the guitarist from Mayhem (the band that started the whole Norwegian black metal thing as we know it today) was a communist.

I like 'metal'. But perhaps much of what I like may perhaps be called 'nu-metal'. Maybe even hard rock.

You guys are talking about nazis and leftists liking metal. I then saw 90% of people liking hip-hop at their school.

Where I am, hip-hop is somewhat being assimilated with pop music (Britney Spears shit). But Australia is also a strongly alternative music place. Rock and 'alternative' music here is so fucking mainstream. I'm not saying my music isn't, but more people like alternative music then metal. Alternative and pop are probably close in popularity, or even being assimilated together.

I always used to be uptight about saying what music I liked. Most people I know like mostly only alternative music (which I like a little). If it wasn't for some metal heads I know, I would be indenial.

But I like what i like. I no longer care what people think.
