looks like hollywood is going on overdrive to get the american people on a war footing. What's it gonna take to wake these people.

I bet warner bros or whoever made it will be getting a tidy sum and so will the Marines in fresh meat.

Black Hawk Down is actually a good film which was in production before the new wave of racism...sorry, i mean patriotism. However, it was pushed foward for release to cash in on the current affairs.

Black Hawk Down was a real education. You know, I didn't even know why were in Somalia. How can you be opposed to the soldiers trying to get rid of that asshole warlord Aidid who intentionally starved and killed so many hundreds of thousands of his own people. And the movie was a really, really good movie. I recommend it to everyone here.
And I also plan to see We Were Soldiers. I love Vietnam War movies. Oddly enough, when I was a young girl, I used to go see them with my dad (Platoon, Hamburger Hill, etc.).

Ohh ........ thats why i say hollywood is a fuckin powerful weapon ....... propaganda shit ....... makes me sick .

rebel says it was a real education !! hahaha !
well , atleast thats what they want u to think , but ofcourse they show u how the American soldiers r so nice , brave , patriot ....... and show u how the somalis r brutal cannibals ..... but ofcourse they wont tell u that the usa did put Aidid and fund him at the beginning ..... and the CIA was the whole thing behind the civil war .... and ofcourse wont show u how the american soldiers sprayed 10s of somalis with bullets in many incidents and then they turn out to be normal civilians !!

Hollywood , hollywood ......... can someone plzz send a nuke missile their way ?!

You sound just like my leftist friend at work. He said that anything Bruebecker works on is propaganda. But if they went in to get someone out that was killing masses of people- what's wrong with that?

Black Hawk Down was a decent film, but the fact that the commercials said soemthing like "blah blah blha, but what was more incredible was how they (UN soldiers) triumphed" and that jsut exposed the revisionist garbage that it was.

I heard the only thing really wrong with Black Hawk Down was that it only showed three black people (or some other insanely small number) in the whole movie. Scott and Bruckheimer have never produced introspective, poetically brilliant films though, so I wasn't surprised. I think Bruckheimer's last was Swordfish and Scott used Liotta so little in Hannibal that it should have been a crime. But I agree, Hollywood shouldn't use the politics of a situation like mass starvation or the Vietnam War unless it's got another Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket up its sleeve.

Sounds like a pile of shite to me.Don't know about you guys, but I knew some aid workers that had been in Somalia when the shit hit the fan.The criminals in america helped flood the place with weaponary, then ,after the botched UN attempt to stabilize the place,The US military atempted to stabilise Somalia by the usual tactic of shooting anything that moved.Needless to say, they got the fuck out(the aid workers)Because it was obvious that things would not go as planned.Unfortunately the military thought they could stabilize the place, even though they were the cause of total instability......Anyway,on September 12th,the director of Black Hawk Down was asked to bring an earlly release to the film, and that certain changes to the script would be required,if they wanted US helicopters for use in the film.
Now I'm not saying it's total bollocks.........but take it with a pinch of salt!
P.S.General Aideed was the CIA's original choice for new dictator of Somalia......Hmmm!Intelligence agencies?

Behind Enemy Lines is the only one that, as far as I know, was rushed into the theaters after September 11th. That movie looked like complete, total disposable crap.

Not saying Scott rushed the film, just that he was asked to get it out a.s.a.p. by the Govt.

And thanks for warning me about Behind Enemy Lines.I shall try to avoid it.

Apocalypse Now's a fucking awesome film....one of my favourites.

Scargill - I saw a picture that claimed to be of Belgian soldiers roasting a Somali boy over a bonfire but there's no proof of its authenticity anywhere. Anyone know anything else??

guerrillaradio,it was someone else who mentioned the roasting thing. Not heard that one before.I know there were cases of Canadian and Pakistani troops losing the plot and shooting civilians though.

But if they went in to get someone out that was killing masses of people- what's wrong with that?

Because America put him there in the first place, and doesnt care that he is killing millions of people. Its when he poses a problem to the US economy that they claim they are ridding the world of evil and start war.
Its been done many times before, Gadaffi, Bin Laden, and it will be done again.

so, bruckheimer, hollywoods favourite war whore takes more liberties with history, and decency.
the film, in all its condescending glory patriotically scrolls the names of all the poor dead yank meathead marines.
what about the somalian civilians, not fighting to maintain the elitist powerbase of their tyrannical dictator, but out of principle etc?
ive never been so offended

Black hawk down was propoganda because it glorified all the Americans as glorious crusadors, and the africans as murderous barbarians. I realize that there was a malicious warlord. But I don't think that killing the people living in the country that he's in will solve any problems.

Reminds me of something a kid at school said,

"Well, I was surprised that only 17 or so people died. Well, there were a couple thousand black guys, but they don't count.."
