War is war, people die. It sucks that those soldiers who were husbands, fathers, and sons die, but the same thing happens on the other side (except tenfold). This is the job they accepted, so shit happens.
But I don't necesarilly think that people deserve to die. If one thinks this, then one is just as bad as the right-wingers and the anti-everything fundamentalists like bin Laden. He believes all westerners are Evil, and the US gov't, King George II, believes bin Laden and his cronies and any Arab (no.... person, actually) who dislikes the US, is Evil.
Good vs. Evil. If all sides believe they are good, then who can possibly be Evil. This is obviously relative to whose side you're on. But by calling someone pure Evil, then you cast away any chance of understanding why they think they way they do, or why they do the things they do. All you see in them is "irrational" hatred. If this is your viewpoint, then the only way to bring peace to the world is to destroy all things that are Evil, meaning anything/one that disagrees with you. These people who disagree with you deserve to die, because their is no hope for them, they are Evil, meaning that all they feel is hate and all they want to do is destroy.
By saying someone deserves to die is believing someone is Evil, because you feel they are unchangeable, because they don't agree with you.
But I'm not saying that death is uncalled for. Our world is based on force, violence, this is the primary function of any nation-state. If the situation arises were I would need to kill in order to see my beliefs become reality, I would. But not because the person opposing me "deserved" to die. I would not believe the person was Evil. They are fighting for what they believe in, they have been misled, but they have a weapon, and they are going to kill me because I am fighting for what I believe in. So it comes down to what I think is right, and what he thinks is right, and I am about to lose my life, so I will take his. and in the end, hopefully what I think is right will prevail, and will actually be right.

Is that a "work" that they've accepted, or were they guys obligated to go there?

Rosa,if they are soldiers, they have no choice. They gave up their rights when they signed up.That,s the deal,at least in the UK.I imagine that it isn't any different for US troops.

well, excuse me for ignorance...in my country there was no "signing up", but some assholes would knock on your doors wanting the above-18-son.
Thought that young men are obligated to serve army for some time. OK.

I understand what you are saying Rosa,we used to have conscription in the UK,and the US has used it on occasion. But it is not the case at the moment.

Irony and reaping what you sow springs to mind...my guess is that the Chinooks were hit with Stinger missiles...SUPPLIED by the USA to the Moujahadin! Very similar to the CIA training Bin Laden.
I feel for the families of the fallen soldiers, I also feel for the innocents that have been killed as a result of US bombing raids too.
LOL at the dumb assed media.
They said they were 'fighting Taliban forces making a final stand.'
I very much doubt they're making a final stand, this war will go on indefinately. They give you the impression that it'll all be over by friday night.

Didn't they win the war nearly two months ago?
Oh!Yeah! The Russians thought it was over after the first six months as well. 10 years, and 17,000 troops later it was a different matter.I sincerely hope the shit will be over by friday night,so the people of Afghanistan can have at least a decade of peace, they deserve a fucking break.Don't worry though yanks, the UK and the Germans have volunteered to police the first 12 months of peace?????......Dumb shits!

I think it sucks. But Dubya said that this wasn't going to be like Somalia and we had to expect U.S. casualties. Of course, that doesn't make it any easier to take. But I believe in what they are doing over there.

I honestly say fuck these dumbass american soldiers ....
if they were good they wouldnt sing in a an army that humiliates and kills other races just for personal interests ....
And monkey , If we take what u say , then most of the americans would be evil , coz they think the Taliban are evil !! and the talibans r fighting for what they believe ! Didnt bush start the Good vs. Evil thing at the first place !?

I was arguing against using Good vs. Evil as a terminology and belief, my friend. I never said the Taliban weren't fighting for what they believe in, either. I am sure you know my views on the Taliban however.
The Taliban are just as worse as Racist US soldiers. But I will call neither side Evil or Good. And I have a good friend in the military in South Korea. He is in it because of the money, because not everyone can afford college or whatnot.
I do not hate the people, I only hate what people believe in.
