What was the Warsaw army like? Was it well trained...do you think it could stand up to western military might? Was the Warsaw Army just a puppet for the Soviets or did it control itself??

depends, what time are we talking about here?
Well the Warsaw pact army was the NATO counterpart in the east. In Europe all communist states but one (Jugoslavia) were members of it. It was mostly controled by the Russians since they had the largest army. The Warsaw army had a good tank force and mases of infantery, at the hight they had 60 000 tanks. They had a verry offensive doctrine and mostly belived in a tactical use of nukes while NATO belived in strategic use. The Warsaw pacts fleet stratey was based on Submaries to cut of the supply lines over atlantic and block US aid to NATO. They also had a hight belive in paratroopers and small elite units called Spetznas.
Konev, great name, you paying tribute to Marshall Konev from WW2? Now he was a good leader.

well looks like konev answered your question
Yes sort of a tribute, my great-grandfather fought under him at Korsun, Konev was one hard leader, a hardass so to speak.
The warsaw pacts main disadvantage was the fact that NATO controlled most of Scandinavia, the first move in case of war the north fleet of the sovet union was planned to move from thier main base at Severdnondvisk, go north of Norway, go south, bypass Island, pass bethwen Gernland/Island and Island/Brittan to cut of the americans supply lines over the atlantic and stop them for aiding thier allies. NATO however may have been able to disrupt this move by moving a large anti-submarie force to Norway. The only way to bypass this NATO move was for the soviets to move whitout warning or to invade Finland and Sweden, both not NATO countries, by controlling them the Soviets could station ariforces in Northen Sweden, around Umeo or Luleo and thus throw NATO out of Norway.

Did Norway have a big army to help NATO out?? Deffensive cappablities against a Soviet Assult???? I would think that the Fins would ally with the Communists and the Sweades would be neutral to some extent. Anthror nation that didn't put to much troops into the feild for Warsaw Pact was Romanaia because Cheausecu didn't beilive in it. Sorry about Spelling
Zeke
Well Norway dint have a verry large army, but northen Norway is verry difficult to attack, i doubt that finland would join the communits, they hade allways fought the soviet union. The best way to attack Norway is thrue central Sweden, since Swecen was neutral this could be done whit pretty low risk, who goes to a nuclear war over sweden?

All East European Socialist nations were a part of the Warsaw Pact (minus Yugoslavia) and contributed. Albania however, left the pact in 1961 to support China's view of Socialism over the Soviets Stalinised views.
