View Full Version : Che Guevara Movie
A new movie is being made about the cuban revolution, but focuses more on the life of Che. Che Guevara is being played by Benicio Del Toro, who is also producing the movie. The movie is in the very early stages of being made. The movie is entitled "Che" and will be released sometime next year(hopefully). This is for real though because my brother is in the entertainment industry and there is a huge buzz on the movie. The movie is being directed by Steven Soderbergh and its also starring Benjamin Bratt. For those who don't believe me here is a link.

This movie is probably gonna be really cool and well made, just good filmmaking, benicio looks seriously much like Che and is most likely gonna do a good job, and the same goes for the director, he did oceans eleven which was ok. The writer terrence malick, he wrote and directed The Thin Red Line.
but, a good che movie can never be made with US money, that is just a fact. The movie could be very hipocritic when they are telling about the life of our friend, even thoe its gonna be cool.
I wonder what Che would think about having a movie made about him with US money.

i said nothing about the people in america, they (and you) are probably most very good people :P
But making a movie, that is funded by a currence that Che hated is strange. But the movie is still gonna be good.
Sadly, this movie is gonna be premired in my country until 2006 <_<
........and......why Frank Zappa......

yes they are all real *****es arent they? <_<
personally i really dont care about the movie, it will probally be a overhyped action movie that will only do mediocre returns it may peak No 1 for one week but with guranteed crappy blockbusters like the Star Wars movie and I think a movie based on Alexander the Great it will drown. The only movie I am really looking foward to in 2005 is Inglorious Bastards only because Indiana Jones 4 is delayed to 2006
btw i am moving this to Film and Literature

The screenplay is being written by Terrence Malick (who was originally set to direct as well). Last I checked Malick is not exactly known for overblown Hollywood action flicks.

That and the fact that Benecio will have his hand in the say. How Ironic.... A south american using U$ money to make a film about Che. I think it will be absolutely brilliant.

What fucking difference does it make if it's US money or Kenyan money?
Some of you are so close-minded.

Well.....
Che hated the US economy (parton my English), and the American government hates everything that has to do with Cuba.
And making a huge movie about his life, which he spent hating the US econamy and fightin against it, seems rather strange.
And judging the way americans make movies, it is very likely that the movie is going to be overblown with violence and gore.
But......
With the movie coming out, it could be a very good thing, people could get moore interested in Che and what he fought for.
And that kind of publishiti is only possible with US money.

Che disagreed with the US' foreign affairs and US' capitalism. The American government doesn't hate everything to do with Cuba, only certain aspects. Don't be so close minded.
Your English is fine.

Entertainment doesn't have anything to do with the politics. The US and the Soviet Union were at war, yet they made certain movies glorifying the brave and heroic soldiers of the Red Army. You guys make it seem like the whole world is out to get you. It's not the US government that's making this film, it's private enterprises that are doing it.
If these guys didn't make a movie, you kids would be running around complaining how the American government doesn't make movies about Cuba and Che.

Americans? You mean individual directors?
If there is violence and gore, so what? You don't think Che saw violence and gore? I thought you wanted it to be realistic. Isn't gore and violence realistic? Afterall, he DID fight a revolution.
With the movie coming out, it could be a very good thing, people could get moore interested in Che and what he fought for.
Yeah, good thinking.

You do make some good points, and i must agree about the violence, i admit i made a mistake <_<
But, Entertainment and Politics are getting more and more coincident. Movies and books for example.

I don't know why you would say that

Maybe "everything" is a strong word, but they cannot stand their success.
They even have an embargo  and they are not gonna get rid of that any time soon.
Your English is fine
Thanks a bunch

No, if you don't like violence, you don't like it. I happen to enjoy the violence in movies, I don't know why.
But, Entertainment and Politics are getting more and more coincident. Movies and books for example.
Yeah, they do but what I was talking about is the Government and Hollywood. Although, they do have ties it's nothing big in my opinion.
I don't know why you would say that
Sorry, that was a conjecture on my part.
They even have an embargo and they are not gonna get rid of that any time soon.
Yeah, they do have an embargo on Cuba. But tell me this, reverse positions. If the Cuba was the United States and very powerful, and the US was a small capitalist island...what would happen?

Well, i doubt that Cuba would be as corrupted as the US was at the time of the Revolution and have Mafia which is backed up by those who controlle.
You do have good point, it would have turned out maybe the same or completelie different, but i do doubt that the Cubans would have used the same threats against the US as the US made against Cuba, invasion, blockades, threats of nuclear annihilation, biological warfare, and embargoes.

I've known about this for some time. I love the fact that Benecio only does one film a year and devotes several years reading to each character. He has had a life long obsession with Guevara, and would not be surprised if he has been to this site.
I think he's beautiful and would love to sit in the backyard and talk with him and some friends about revolutionary pedagogy, think he would make a great comrade.

I also think that it should not be made by an American. Che's message about the true nature of America would most likely be toned down in the hands of such a person, much like what Spike Lee did to Malcom X's message when he made a movie based on his life.
I suppose it is just the nature of Americans to assimilate and taint.
And yes I realize the irony of saying this while being an American (I'm only half American, by force I say!) and having a Dr Zoidberg avatar.
