why do you think he was not a communist?

he said he was not a marxist, but that was because of what was being done in his name

yeah, he said (in response to a social democratic party in germany who were using marxism as their idealogy, but was clearly not marxist) si je sais quelque chose, qu'il soit que je ne suis pas de marxiste; translation: if I know anything, it is that i am no marxist.

I believe it was actually...''As for me, I am not a Marxist''. In reference to radical French youth, referring to themselves as ''Marxist''.

Which evidently Marx did not take much liking too.

What was meant by the letter, was that, he was not a Marxist in the way that they conceived it with their postion.

We were going on the whole Marx quote thing so I thought id add my little contribution...he said this to someone at the international I think...could have been bakunin...dont really know....its a great quote none the less.

He was definatly a wit...I mean writing a book called "The poverty of philosophy" it retaliation to Proudhans "The philosophy of pverty"....Marx was a regular comedian!!!
