I consider myself a true Marxist communist, or at least a libertarian Socialist.

However, I do find it fascinating learning about "failed communist" societies, or Stalinism.

Has anyone ever listen to Voice of Korea (formerly Radio Pyongyang)? It is the shortwave radio station of North Korea. You must try listening to it, its very funny although meant in seriousness. Its also very sininster in a way as well. It feels like you've gone back in time to the Stalin years.

In fact, I am listening to it now:

"The American imperialist aggressors are continuting war games on the sacred korean peninsula...."

Its fascinating in an evil way.

You can listen to it with just a shortwave radio, from virtually anywhere in the world.

What's so evil about that? The American government is Imperialists, and they DO want to continue playing war with north korea in order to get a bigger military budget.

Oh well I was just talking about the general evilness of the North Korean regime - on their radio program they insist that their regime is a "socialist workers paradise" in which the workers control the country under the "leadership of great leader Kim Jong Il"

what a load of bullshit!

If you know a bit about radio, then this will help:

This is the bit thats useful though:

English
0100-0200 NECHN 3560, 6195, 7140, 9345
0100-0200 CAm/SAm 6520, 7580, 11735
0200-0300 SEAs 4405, 9325, 11335
0300-0400 NECHN 3560, 6195, 7140, 9345
1000-1100 CAm/SAm 3560, 9335, 11710
1000-1100 SEAs 9850, 11735
1300-1400 WEu 4405, 7505, 11335
1300-1400 NAm 9335, 11710
1500-1600 WEu 4405, 7505, 11335
1500-1600 NAm 9335, 11710
1600-1700 ME/NAf 3560, 9975, 11735
1900-2000 WEu 4405, 7505, 11335
2100-2200 WEu 4405, 7505, 11335

So if you want to listen at 19:00 UTC (the same as GMT) in WEu (Western Europe) you tune to with 4405, 7505 or 11335 khz. I litened on 11335 because I couldn't get any signal on the other ones.

Is it possible to get transcripts of the broadcasts? I don't have anything that even resembles a shortwave radio. (I can't even work my radio alarm clock, but that's another story.)

I wonder if there are any radio broadcasts that aren't "fascist psuedo-communist" or "capitalist imperialist" (as the systems are called).

I doubt you could get a transcript (this is North Korea we're talking about!)

But it is a laugh just listening to it - it makes you wonder whether the announcers actually believe what they are saying....

try the KCNA news site, the contect of the news programme is pretty similar to this spiel:

www.kcna.co.jp

Plus some patriotic marching songs and reminiscences about their great war and "victorious army" blah blah blah
