I was driving today, and I came to an intersection. The min-van in front of me had one large, peeling, white bumper-sticker on it that read as follows:

"If it ain't King James,
It ain't Bible"

This hit me rather hard. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't King James use the execuse of translating the bible for his own religious gain? I swear I have heard that he manipulated the writings to support his religion, Catholicism. I always see religious stickers on cars, but they are always christain, never Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, or any other world religion. Free advertisement for the christian right, and an age old lie? Your thoughts always welcome.

king james still contains the language in its intended context, it utilises greek & aramaic language to save loss of meaning in translation,

the word miseo, wich if checked in the dictioanary means alot more than hate,

it is the choice of most anti creationists to dig up hypocracy and contradictions

The last one, about Jesus, seems sarcastic. If you swap Jesus for Che and crucifiction for life, its context wouldnt be too different

I wish some of the other religions had bumperstickers. I don't like the religious ones in general, but I really don't like seeing ALL catholic ones. It's very aggravating.

I saw one bumpersticker that read, "Jesus is coming, everybody look busy."

I thought that that one was funny, hee.

My favorite bumper sticker is one that has a confederate flag on it and it says "an armed society is a polite society." It makes no sense, but I feel compelled to laugh at it.

 That'd be awesome. You'd probably get your car blown up, but it would be worth it.

Seriously though, the cross it sort of a strange choice of symbol, as it was simply a common method of execution during Roman rule, and a fucking gruesome one at that. It would be like starting a religion who's symbol was an electric chair. Creepy.

"an armed society is a polite society."

LOL I like that. Certainly everyone would be nice and polite if we were all pointing guns at each other. Hell didn't they call that the Cold War? ;)

King James did in fact use the Bible translation as a political tool.

One example of this is the replacing the Greek word for a "poisoner" with the English word "Witch"

Before King James' use of the word "Witch" in this context, a Witch was known as the modernized version of "Wise one" or "Wicca" ....

So the change of use of the word into an old crone who poisons people and worships the devil rather than an old woman who uses herbs to heal people, or a practicianer of the old religion is closely linked to the King James Bible.

That is just one, of many reasons why the King James Bible is a poor translation.

I dont put much worth in the Bible as a non-fiction text. It serves the purpose to educate the masses about manners and love, but I cannot believe that many of thoese stories are true. Much of the bilbe was written many many years after Jesus lived. It is a good religious symbol and teaching tool, but should not be looked at as infalliable. Religious bumber stickers are ok. At least most of them are trying to promote faith and unity. I dont believe any of them, but I dont but much faith in bumber stickers in general.

I wonder about the one that says "heritage not hate" with the confederate flag. Cuase im so "ignorant"
and I look at it and think:

"heritage not hate"......Of course YOU didnt hate slavery.
