THIS SHIT IS BANGING. I just picked it up, a friend of my dad's burnt me a copy. This is album is hot. And usually concious rap, like truly concious, sounds like it was made in someone's garage. but seriously this album is on point. This boy puts Bush, Cheney, Rice, America, Corporate America, the industry on blast.
For those of you that don't know Immortal Technique was born in Peru during the Shining Path fiasco shit. MOved to harlem and made a name for himself as one of the best battle MC's around. He's opened for Blackthought, J5, Blackalicious, etc. Pick up this album.
And listen to the song "Peruvian Cocaine" 5 verses each done by a different MC going from the cocaine being grown in Bolivia to it being on the streets of NYC. Shit is clean.
Not to mention he heas Mumia Abdul Jamal on the album...shit is CLEAN.....!!!!!

Yes, yes, and yes. Immortal is awesome and both of his albums are amazing. Brining the real shit back to hip hop, if you ever get the chance to see him live don't miss out on that ish, he's pretty crazy.
Check out this dude's Soundclick page for over a dozen Immortal freestyles

I got this album a month or so ago since Hampton recommended it so strongly. Yes I agree, it is a really great album. I will get Volume I soon if it is anywhere near as good as Volume II.

Immortal Technique is the shit. Hes better than all those other rappers who are rapping today like eminem and 50 cent. He raps about reality and now about fake shit. Hes keeping the rap and hip hop scene real and not selling out like all these other idiots out there.

That's one of my favortie albums. His homophobic/mysogynistic streaks detract from his 'revolutionary' credo, though.

You can go to http://www.viperrecords.com/, Immortal's label, to buy em or if a local independent music store might be able to get them for you if you can't buy em online.

would you recommend this as a starter for listening to 'conscious rap' ?
I do have a diversified taste in music (blues/jazz/soul/rock/funk), but as most of what you hear rap-wise is mainstream you can understand if I have a biased opinion just now <_<
Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Go for it chief.

This album would be a good start, most, if not all, of the tracks on Vol. 2 are politically charged.
You might also want to look into Mr. Lif- I Phantom and Emergency Rations [EP], Immortal's Revolutionary Vol. 1, Dead Prez- Lets Get Free if you don't have it already, if you could get your hand on the No More Prisons compilations, Mos Def and Talib Kweli- Black Star, Kewli's solo- Quality and Reflection Eternal and Mos'- Black on Both Side.
It's a good start.
