But why are there only 4 options?

M_Rawlins
18th April 2004, 11:32
what about system of a down?

truthaddict11
18th April 2004, 15:31

I can't decide. I am a Clash fan at heart, but The DK's are amazing, as are RATM and MSP.

If I chose one, I'd have to hide for the rest of my life in shame

Bro, I'm not even remotely involved in that scene and I know who those guys are.

I didn't know SOAD or the Clash or the International Noice Conspiracy were leftist.

I chose DK's but with major bands you've got a problem, because to be honest they aren't that political. Or at least it doesn't seem to come out right, it all seems to be lip-service. Maybe that's just me. And how can you not of heard of at least The International Noise Conspiracy?!!

At least no one's voted for the Manics yet, cos even though I like them, they lost their political edge a while back, jsut got too popular I guess (god I sound like my head's way up my arse, sorry).

The Manics have some intelligent leftist music. The Clash I am not too sure about.

Sorry I disagree MB, you say they lost their political edge, well how do you explain songs like if you tolerate this, and my little empire, freedom of speach wont feed my children? All in their last two albums.

and it amazes me how RATM are listed here as being better than the likes of clash...

Your post is ridiculous, its offensive, so please dont tell people to jump off bridges, it makes you look a twat.

I didn't know SOAD or the Clash or the International Noice Conspiracy were leftist.

You just have to listen to SOAD to know that they are leftists, im not sure about the others.

And SOAD are an affront to music, I woudln't put them on this poll for fear of offending the other bands

That is one of the most disgusting things i have ever read on this site.
I chose Rage but there are better leftist bands, where's the hip hop people like Dead Prez, the Coup, Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions all come ahead of those bands for me.

M_Rawlins

axis of justice (http://www.axisofjustice.com)

the website by the lead singer of SOAD, and Tom Morello
give it a look,

"Axis of Justice is non-profit political organization formed by Tom Morello of Audioslave and Serj Tankian of System of a Down. Its purpose is to bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice together.

We aim to build a bridge between fans of music around the world and local political organizations to effectively organize around issues of peace, human rights, and economic justice."

The Manic Street Preachers are by far the best leftist band in the world.

System of a down are a joke, the noise they produce is an insult to the music industry along with Will Young and Gareth Gates.

Bazza
18th April 2004, 22:29
Out of those bands I'd probably vote for The Clash.
But if I could pick any other band it would be the Redskins.

Hate Is Art
18th April 2004, 22:53
The Clash are lefties, albums like Sandanista! and songs like White Riot prove this.

where's the hip hop people like Dead Prez, the Coup, Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions all come ahead of those bands for me.

who, who, and who!

DW i know who public enemy are!

I completely agree that SOAD is crap. I've seldom heard from people who agree with me on this, so it's pretty cool to hear from others who don't like them. Normally I'm surrounded by folks who love this crappy band.

msp are crap.... their last album blew chunks. dk's and the clash are amazing bands, but i gotta tip my hat to ratm on this one. ever since i heard "no shelter" like what? '96? my life has been all about em. i got all the albums. some t's. they are by far the best "big" leftist band. as for public ennemy, they have some of the best leftist rap out there. and as for soad......... yea silence is what should have been replaced on those cd's instead of that god-awful garbage that they put out.

So you chat shit, my friend.

I think it's funny to watch everyone get all pissy over music. Can't you just agree to disagree? You can't really prove to someone who hates a certain band that they are really the pinnacle of musical genius.

Nothing like browbeating a weak minded RATM fan. U2 fans are even better, the best bit is when they actually try to use facts and get it wrong.

dumb wankers.

I cannot stand SOAD, but that's just me.

The Clash get my vote. But dude, this is a pretty ridiculous poll. It's just wrong on so many levels.

Take the Power back
19th April 2004, 03:04
With SOAD, I don't think it's about changing anything politically, just sending a message, fueling the fire, so to speak. RATM aren't much different, they just attracted more people, but either way, both bands bring in, and brought in, much money. To be fair, RATM gave a lot to charities and organizations, but $1 out of a $35 ticket to homelessness and what not, that's $34 left. I like them for music, and for fueling the fire inside me and others, but a money-making machine cannot call itself leftist for a very long time.

Propaghandi's a major band, just underground. Many people know about them.

Louis Pio

SOAD is sooo boring. I really hate that band.
To me it's pretty obvious that Dead Kennedys should win this poll. But that's just my personal oppinion.

I liked all the manics albums, my fav one is "know your enemy" the last one was their worst but it was still a great album.

Wrong, they MAY be a good or even great leftist band but to say something as stupid as "by far the best in the world" is completely foolish.

I'll pick DKs. Oh and this poll should have had soooo many others listed, not SOAD.
Bazza pointed out the Redskins now there was a great band. I'll annoy some of you and suggest that Chumbawamba should have been included.

And how could anyone not realize that the Clash were leftist? It boggles the mind.

With SOAD, I don't think it's about changing anything politically

Just read the thing on the back of their first album it got all shit about brining the system down, that sounds like changing things to me. Personally i ke em but im not gonna inforce that on anyone.

Man, u need to start listening to more music, at least uve heard of PE.

I find it funny that loads of people have come on hear slating Rage fans when they are so far ahead in the poll.

I think some people vote for RATM because that's the only "leftist" music that they know so they pick them as a default. It is easier than thinking.

Not to beat a dead horse but here's a few other leftist bands worthy of mention:
Neurotics
Adjusters
Les Partisans

And each of them is better than RATM.

Definitely RATM. No more, no less.

We're snobs if we don't pick RATM? I'll give them their due but they just aren't/weren't the best leftist band. Maybe the best leftist metal-rap band.

Not to be anal... but the one where Jello mentions Reagan is called "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now". But yeah it is basically Callifornia Uber Alles. Ever hear the Disposable Heroes of Hiphopracy version?

I'd also like to mention that I have:

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - dead Kennedys
Rage against the machine - rage against the machine
london calling - the clash
the greatest hits - manic street preachers

So I feel I'm in a reasonable enough position to judge, although admittedly they may have left the most political songs off the Manics one.

Hits are rarley as good as the songs from the actual albums. After all you only get one song on the MSP's greatest hits from The Holy Bible album, and that is arguably the greatest albums they ever produced, if not the greatest leftist album ever produced.

I voted for the Dead Kennedys.
