Imperialism (military Interventionism)
Neocolonialism (WTO, IMF, etc.)
The market economy. (compared to the mixed economies that the more civilized countries of the world have.)
Lack of availability of healthcare for low-income families.
Tax cuts for the extremely wealthy.
Homelessness (of which the average age is 8)
Corporate sponsored education.
The filtered, unoriginal media content. That includes the television programs and movies that are based on foreign productions from Europe, Japan, etc. It also includes how the content of foreign movies is edited when they are imported.
Having to buy Americanized (spelling, wording) versions of British books when they are imported.
Low educational standards.
This was originally going to be called, "The top ten reasons why America sucks," which is why you will see some reasons that refer to its effect on the international community.
According to many of those factors, few countries would be "acceptable" to live in.
*edit* And of course there are other countries that have larger problems.
What is the solution? Is there one?

Im sure taht your reasons are good, but heres my reason that America is a good country to live in. Because the old one where I was born you couldnt eat, you couldnt live all that great.
Not to be patriotic, but America is a nice place to live. The govt. sucks and I know this, so do all of its policies, the media and what not. But as long as you can fight back and not become a mindless patriot, its pretty much good.
Your reasons are good, but you cant look at all of it through taht perspective. Feeding your family comes before fighting for someone elses.

Good for you! don't become the stereotypical mindless yanquis!
I was born in the UK and have lived in this pit (maybe that's harsh) all my life. My sister moved to Oklahoma to work in one of those free hospitals you guys have over they're coz the majority of the population are so selfish you won't chip in for the medical benefit of all, yet you'll pay out both the biggest per capita on military and the biggest gross. She's since moved to Cali, the up to Oregon (same jobs, new places) but she's no longer working in the free clinic - a fact that depresses me greatly. To me this is the single reason (and I quote this in practically every thread i post) why living in america is totally unnacceptable - you become the mindless, money grabbing yanquis.
We are children of our environment
Keep fighting.

confession time: I read once that the america spellings are in fact correct... the british started changing the english language, and the conservative yanquis of the day didn't like that, so didn't adopt it.

Incorrect. Correct spelling is determined by commonly accepted practices and conventions of the time, thus if the British "changed" spellings etc... then this is the "correct" ( i hate using this term) spelling and convention to be used. I mean you couldn't say that for example Indonesians have the correct pronunciation of Arabic words, and the Saudi's are incorrect.

but the world standard, the so-called 'International Business Language' is US English
I don't know why they don't change it to spanish anyway, it's not as if the majority of the US even speaks english as their first language anymore

New reason: The majority of the world either envies you, or hates you if you are American. And they have every reason in the world to do so. EX: If you are rich and american, not only do the poor and unhappy in other countries want to be you, but their peers may hate you for living in the U$A, and for being part of the "wealth" problem our whole world seems to have. Just my thoughts.
