View Full Version : What makes you go?

We are all different people. But most of us in here are Communists or Socialists of some sort.
We all have different reasons for why we believe in what we believe they way we do.
For those who are Leninist, why Leninism, for those who are Stalinist why stalinism? For those who have your own ideas, why?

What is behind your leftism? What makes you go?

sound off.

My dad worked for the State Bar of California, but the government (more specifically the republican governor Pete Wilson) decided it took up too much tax money and decided that it would be shut down. For a year and a half my dad was unemployed and I knew then that republicans are heartless bastards. Since then I have gotten progressively more and more liberal.

I just have the feeling that there must be something better than this. I'm just a student but I don't want to go to work for just the money. I don't want to be someone who tries to earn as much money as he can. But then again, if I don't what will become of me in this society? It's not that I don't want to work, don't get me wrong, I don't want to work the way people do it now, trying to live the "best" life with the most money ...

Being as leftist is the only logic I see as comprehensible. Under capitalism billions suffer for the benifit of a few, I don't see how anyione can be a capitalist.

It is easy, buy something and then sell it to someone else for more, you just made profit ...

Yeah, I know DC doesn't meant it this way, but the wise-ass in me wanted to post this ...

Under capitalism, it is never that simple. Someone had to build what you bought, was paid less than its value, than you sold it for more than its value...that constitutes theft in my book.

The hatred I have for Bureacracy and conservative logic. The astounding enormity that the US had to kill millions (yes millions) of Native Americans on their own land and smash their culture. The racism that is embedded in the community and the discriminative qualities that are shouted by everyone around. The injustice of people from around the world being held by the rich people to bust their balls for the good of "society".

All of these reasons are what gives me purpose and direction. Particularly the FBI's war on Nat. Am. tribes.

When I think about it, I'm not that all that oppressed (me being fairly middle class), I suppose the biggest problem I have with capitalism is the rape of the third world that is necessary for me to live like I do. People in American ghettos live like kings compared to those in Africa and Latin America, and that has a lot to do with American Imperialism. Theres others, but that the biggest bone to pick for me.

The exploitation and brutality of U$ foreign Policy has had many reprecussions on my life. The anger/fight against Imperialism for me is as blatant as my gender and skin color. I breath it and have lived it all my life. Unlike some here, my leftist sentiments weren't sparked by text, film, or media sources....but from a painful history lived by me and my family.

As a child I felt desciminated against, in ways that are fairly unchangable in our current society. As I grew up this helped me empathise, and take personal the issues cocerning those who are systematically descriminated against.

i believe in communism because i belive that it would be great if everyone were equal and if there was no one higher than anyone... theoretically... but there are many reasons... not to be confused with eutopianism

Heh, i know what that's like. I actually just talked about it today in sociology. Me, being the WASP son of a pair of WASP petty bourgeois, it's hard for me to not completely reject where I came from and hold my beliefs. I've always found it to be like walking a fine line. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but maybe not.

Anyway, I believe what I do because of what I see every day. I see people being dehumanized in almost every sphere of existence. They're either:
a)A producer and a producer only (through work)
b)A consumer and a consumer only (through consumerism and branding), or
c)A product (through advertising... i'll explain it further later... it's late and whatnot now).

I try to outwardly reject dehumanization and inwardly reclaim, restore, and maintain my humanity. I try to make humanity about just that: actually being human. I don't believe this is possible in capitalism.

I reached these beliefs fairly recently (within the last few months), but was a leftist long before. I was originally turned on to it in opposition to US foreign policy (specifically, the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan). From there, it sorta snowballed and i've never looked back (well, once, but that's not really important).

...and that's all for now, folks.

I think what motivates me most is the oppression, inequality and injustice that happens under capitalism. Despite the theories surrounding this, liberal and right wing ideas on society, human nature and the economy I cannot stomach what happens to people in capitalist society. People have a right to work and to live a comfortable life.

As far as concerns Marxism-Leninism I see it as a socialist ideology that will create a society beyond the brutalities and oppression of capitalism.

I concur. The huge, meaningless inequalities dealt out on a daily basis that could well be prevented. They're are accepted for economic reasons.

This makes me Marxist, with no apologies.

because i am aware of the injustices of the world.

i believe that once one is aware of an injustice, it is a moral decision to act or to turn away in indifference.

i am lucky enough to be in a sitiuation where i can act on these injustices, and thus feel obliged to do so

Well I become a Marxist after getting into the idea and theory but soon dropped then once I got into more contemporary political philosophies but I am a leftie in general because I oppose conservatism and fascism as reactionary.

My name is a take-off of John Manley's 2003 budget speech in which he referred to Canada as the "Northern Tiger", which was a take-off of the term "Asian Tigers", referring to the asian countries who experienced "economic growth" after imposing huge economic deregulations. I thought about "Leftist Tiger", "Communsist Tiger", and "Socialist Tiger", but "Socialist Tiger" sounded the best, so it stuck.

I'm a Libertarian Marxist, btw.

And no, I wasn't making a joke.
