Government Land (http://www.che-lives.net/users/cani/government_land.mp3)
This song is taken from the Blood and Fire album, In the Light (http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/shop/cds/BAFCD06.htm).
Horace Andy is surely the possessor of one of Jamaica's most distinctive voices. After a decade of recording hit after hit for other producers he collaborated with New York - based Everton DaSilva to produce his own definitive vocal statement. This is paired on the CD with King Jammy's mesmerising dub versions of the same tunes. Superb value for money with almost 79 minutes of music on the CD. Also available as two separate vinyl albums.
Well worth buying, in my opinion.
You can also read the sleeve notes of the album by following that link.
Give up the land, Government man, give up the land,
Give up the land, Government man, give up the land,
cos the people ain't got no money to buy the land
and if they should go and live on it,
all you do is bulldoze them
Give up the land, Government man, give up Jah land,
Give up the land, Government man, give up the land,
Cos all you do is slave Jah people, by telling them to work on their rent
and all the land is on the hillside, don't you know it's unfair?
Give up the land, Government man, give up the land, (I say)
Give up the land, Government man, give up the land,
How long can you keep our peace, eh government man?
You know you can't fool wise man, you will run away
in the end
Give it up,
Yeah
Give it up,
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Give it up,
oh yeah,
Give it up
How long can you keep our peace, eh government man?
You know you can't fool wise man, you will run away
in the end
Give up Jah land, Government man, give up Jah land, (I say)
Give up Jah land, Government man, give up Jah land,
Give it up,
Yeah
Give it up,
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Give it up,
oh yeah,
Give it up
Give up the land
Horace Andy plays Crawdaddy (f.k.a. the Pod) in Dublin at the end of April.
