View Full Version : War and Peace
Has anyone here actually read the entire book? War and Peace does show Russian culture as a whole from the lowest peasent to the richest czar at the time. But I can't understand how people can keep track of it though with 300 characters and many storylines. I'm thinking about reading it.

Its a good book, and dont be put off by the size, it has to be that big to fit in the great amount of, in my opinion brilliant, social commentary.

I once contemplated reading it but it was so confusing that i gave up.
I also gave up on March 1914 by Solhentytzhn, that was a crap book.

If my library had it I'd have read it ages ago. My friend gave me a summary of it and it sounds like it was amazing

I have considered the idea every now and then to read it or not…I think the time has come to read it. :D

I read that when i was 15. I was glued to the three volumes of it. It is a great example of Tolstoy's linguistic talents.

I read the first half of Anna Karenina before going insane with boredom. That was enough Tolstoy for me.

i've read a fair bit of it before getting bored as hell. I couldn't be bothered with all the names they have for the same guys and as you said their are about 300 differnt people. I rather did like his view that all the Generals and Marshals were incompetants.
As a translation it is very tricky to read anyway, its even worse than Mein Kamph, the worst written book in history.
