I've heard Che's name pronounced about thirty different ways (Shay, Chay, Kay) (Gay-vah-rah, Gway-vair-uh) What is the right way to say it?

i downloaded a song by the buena vista social club (hasta siempre comandante Che Guevara) and they pronounce it "Chay Gua-vahr-a"
I've heard it pronounced in the states "Chay "Gua vara". I take to the latter.

I have predominately pronounced it "Chay" and I’ve heard many of the older generation refer to his as "shay" …its your prerogative to what you wish to call him, I guess.

o that buena vista song, thats actually pretty cool, its live.
The way most people in mags, bios in our language prenounce it is Che (Chay)
Guevara (Geyvara)

put i use to say Shay Guevara (Gwevera) which sounds cool it has a nice ring to him sound more heroic.

Whatever you do, don't pronouce it as Ga-Verra. It's Cheh (not Sheh) Ge-Vah-Rah.

'Che' is a word for 'friend'...just find out how u pronounce that word, and you're set.

His name WAS Ernesto for those that dont remember, lol. He just used to say 'Che' alot...hence the name was given to him.

Apparently, the word "Che" is used in Argentina the same way us Brits use "yer know" or "innit".

This subject is getting very boring

I think it's the equivolent of saying "man" at the end or start of a sentence.

I confused!
why he was che?does it mean "friend" or did he use the word a lot?
and listen to this one:"cheguara" and "chegvara"(as one word) are common here.

He would say Che all the time at the end of sentences, so his friends nicknamed him "Che" and it stuck.

I'll tell you the best way of saying "Che":
As you may have noticed there's a new member here called ThatCHEr. Well, think about saying thatcher without the that- and the -r.
I hope you understand.

People, My name is Daniel Guevara.
I was born in Guatemala, but i live near Atlanta, GA.
I've lived here in the US for over 11 years and i can really count with my fingers the few people that ever say my last name correct for the first time.
I wrestled in highschool and everyone always pronounced my name Wuevera, which kinda got anoying after a while that i stoped correcting them. I even had my counch mispelled a trophy once as Guevera.
Anyways, the spanish way to say Che Guevara is, well for the Che part, think Chair and take out the -ir at the end which still sounds like -e at the end. And the Guevara, well simply don't think of the -U just ignore it, and think Ge-va-ra, well i'm not sure if that helps.

being fromm Argentina, and saying che every free words, lol, ill teach you.

Ch you pronounce in the same way us you do in english, like in chair

E: its like when you say hey, it has the same sound as that e

We pronounce it very strong, with a very strong E

And it doesnt really has a meaning, we just say it all the time. Like: hi che, what are you doing che.
We use it to call someones attention, you say che.
But mainly, we say it all the time cause we are used to do it
