There are tywo books that everyone here should read.
1. Cancer Ward by Alexander Solzhenitsyn (sp?)
It's set in the 50's shortly after Stalin's death on the Soviet Union and it's just amazing. It's really well written (the author won the Nobel Prize for literature) and it's really interesting, you learn a lot about Russian at that time from reasding it.
2. Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre
I think this won the Man Booker Prize last year (2003). It was definitely short-listed for it anyway. It's really good, about a High School Massacre in a town in Texas anda boy who was in the wrong place at the right time. It's a great satire of the US and also a great read.
