Ok everyone knows that you can get a (kinda) valid university diploma online.
Well i had this idea because i know so many people getting into literature and alternative politics who want the titles of good books and the names of good authors. I also had a classical education until i was 16 and the drastic decline in the quality of my education made me miss my old school and i was more forced to take my education into my own hands and continued to read the classics. I've been in Cuba for the last few months and as part of their "programs of the revolution" they have replaced teachers with television tapes of a teacher so that all the children learn the same thing. Now at first i hated this and thought it a sad necessity because of resources and part of a propaganda model to keep anyone from questioning the party...however, i applied the idea and thought of an online reading list of good books people with a well rounded education should read, but paste all the books that you (legally) can online and you make them available for everyone with access to a computer. Now this idea kind of grew into informational sessions on the books and essays written about the books (coles notes style). Then I thought it would be completly important to include a history backup to it and that offering a textbook style math and science course complete with easy inexpensive experiements. So i have the idea of basically a school online, which they have, but this one would be free. Suggestions on good books to read, concepts to consider, history, math, and science lessons complete with multiple choice tests to see if you understand the concepts for everyone and for free. Whats more is you can set it up like this site and have idea forums etc. and live chats about topics on certain dates.

Feedback please

I think it's a wonderfull idea, however I beleive that few poeple will devote their time to educating themselves if the school isn't accredited, and that costs money.

But good luck let us know how it goes.

Personally I would like to see schools teaching Homer, and Virgil again, (The Iliad is my favourite book)

this really is a wonderful idea. Education (especially in politics) is a much more powerful tool than guns and bombs. If done correctly, a free educative system will help many, many people, which in turn will help many more. What would be necessary for this to work, though, is the ability for the public to access the internet, but that shouldn't be difficult. (Libraries). This school would have to account for something. It would be very tough to create it and have it mean something, if you see what i'm saying.

I agree with both those statements. I think that it could potentially get funding from the government (just like all universities do) and you'd need a few people who used it to succeed and speak favorably of it and get people to make donations for it so that maybe it could even become accredited.
It could also teach from such a wide array of perspectives and you could have an entire formal history curriculum done from a Marxist, Anarchist, Aristocratic perspective.
