The original was GREAT, like all of Romero's zombie films. I'm gonna see this one next weekend.

i enjoyed the movie ... of course there were areas that delved away from the original .... but hey that's ok with me.

i personally liked the convo with Andy (the guy on the gun shop roof) and the other people in the mall. especially when they were playing target practice.

good movie

I thought 28 days later was better. But DOTD was funnier.

i think this 1 was actually a remake. there was a series of living dead movies back in the 50's or 60's and the storyline seems to fit along the lines of the old 1's

yes it is a remake .... for sure .. some big differences between the first and this one .... but in the original (because it was made so long ago) the zombies just look like humans with too much make up on .... i recommend people see both of them ... they are both great.

28 days later was awesome. Great soundtrack, too.

I haven't see DOTD, original or new... looks stupid, but then again it could be one of those it's-so-dumb-it's-hilarious movies.

I like zombie movies. (Is that even a valid genre?) My personal favorite is the classic Night of the Living dead, but the old Dawn of the Dead was good, too. I liked all the anti-commercialist symbolism. I haven't seen the new one yet, but I plan to in the near future.

I thought the Johnny Cash song was actually rather well-placed.

I saw it last week, I am a huge fan of the 1978 original and loved this one too, it was one of the best horror remakes in recent years. I didnt like however the element in the new film that only the dead bitten by zombies become zombies, in the original all dead unless their brain was destroyed became a zombie. Also missing was the social satire that Romero used in the original. Plus there was no shots of zombies devouring thier prey or any exclamation on why people were comming back to life and murdering and devouring the living.
The remake has much more action and tons of comical relief the surprise ending was great too. Gore master Tom Savini's cameo was sweet. The baby zombie was priceless.

Night of the Living Dead was released in 1968
Dawn of the Dead was released in 1978
Day of the Dead was released in 1985

George Romero is trying to find a producer for a new "Dead" film.
I highly reccomend picking up any of the "Dead" DVDs try to get the Special Editions for each film all 3 have commentary tracks which give much insight into the films.

another interesting thing about the movie was the 'disease' aspect of it ... when they started by saying this was because hell was full i thought ... wow they're gonna follow the original ... but then they changeed to the biting thing ..... that was annoying.

and the zombies in this movie were really fast .... i mean they kept up with a moving vehicle.... wrong

still a great movie though

well if you remember in Night the lead said that the zombies were chasing and keeping up with a gas tanker so zombies could possibly run. also the zombies were incredibly smart in this film. instead of using mass force to break in they wait for doors to open to attack.

"There's Jay Leno, Shoot him!!"

*Gun shot.

Is it me, or is the ending kind of messed up? *Spoiler ahead for anyone who hasn't seen it yet

They land on an island...........

and they all get screwed over by tonnes of zombies.....

....The End....

wtf?

------------------

The friend who I was watching this movie with, *****ed for 10 minutes about how he wasted 10 dollars on watching this movie with the messed up ending.

i actually liked the ending .... although it didn't make sense with the whole biting thing (it makes more sense with the hell is full thing) ..... but it just gave you a sense of hopelessness .. i liked it

That was a fucking great remake. Great movie. Anyone who likes horror should see this. My girlfriend was literally too scared to stay at her apartment alone. And this is in the middle of a metropolitan city on a Saturday night, she wouldn't stay alone.

I like the fact that the Zombies can run, it makes it scarier. Something about a zombie that can outrun you makes me shiver.

The ending was cool too. When you can hear the rumbling of all those zombies running throught the forest, that shit sent chills down my spine.

this ending was better than the original, instead of flying off to nowhere (to certain death) they all die at the end. I think the best ending though was that of Night I mean he survives a night from hell and ends up shot by vigilantes.

Yeah, I though it was o.k, it seemed to get caught between self parody and actual horror.. 28 days later was far superior in atmosphere and imagery.. And the concept of animal testing and manipulation was better than this vague notion of hell spilling over..

Of course Dawn of the dead was tounge in cheek and the comedic elements worked well but they diluted the attempts of capturing any real menace..

I also thought it ripped off some signiture scenes of 28 days wholesale.. Burning zombies, runnning zombies, the jagged digital shots.. Well I reckon "Shaun of the dead" will beat the lot, in the zombie stakes..

i dont think you can say it ripped off of 28 Days Later, using fire on zombies was used long before that film. and the running zombies cannt really be called a rip off, anyways there werent any zombies in 28 days later. I'll agree with you the reason of why people are zombies was vague but it wasnt about "twhen here's no room in hell..." watch the original to see why that quote was used. the zombies in the original movies were recently deceased who came back to life when a space probe from Venus came close to the Earth suppposivly releasing a virus(as explained in Night) and Dawn takes place 10 years after Night.

So fucking political, too. I love all the cappie "consumer zombies" heading for the mall. Heh-heh. Very clever.

If it has political overtones I think they demonstrate U$ seige mentality on immigration, keep out the diseased hordes,do not let them infect you.. seek sanctuary in the modern church - the mall.. but really it's just a zombie movie...

The movie is really great, no doubt about that.
The funniest thing is almost that nasty voice who keep saying "attention all shoppers" etc etc
