Metal and rock, it's just more a live, than other mainstream pop/hip-hop/rap.
i like bands like:
RATM (they are renegades of funk)
Slipknot (because they just fucks the system)
System of a Down (well they fucks the system too).

Punk after that it varies dependent on my mood: soul, ska, folk, world, traditional reggae.

I voted classic rock.
My second choice would be blues. You should have included that.
And my third choice would have been jazz.
You also failed to put that.

Hey that's pretty damn cool you put rancheras as an option (you meant rancheras right?). I can't stand it but I'm pretty sure that's the first time it's ever been an option on any kind of poll here.

gicen the choices, i chose classic rock, but i also love blues, jazz, old bluegrass stuff from 'o brother where art thou?' and grunge just as much. Well, not really grunge as a whole, I mainly like Nirvana, the meat puppets, that kind of stuff. But even classic rock, it has to be the real classics, like the stones, zepplin, zappa, deep purple, floyd, etc etc. There's lots of classic rock that just bugs me, but in general it's good.

Hell yeah, I'm not really into much blue grass but that one song kicks ass!

I listen to a wide variety of music that I can't even pick which one I like the best. From classic rock, hip hop, rap, alt. rock, garage rock, rock en espanol, classical, underground hip hop, cumbias (sue me!), metal, punk, and I've been getting into reggae, I love it all. Shit I know I'm forgetting some stuff.
Although some people would group some of that into one big group, but it doesn't work that way.

Yeah, RC is right.
You gave ska, classic rock, punk, metal, and rock en espanol different categories, but you didn't even mention the most popular genre: contemporary rock.

Ska is possibly a genre of punk.
Metal is similar to classic rock.
And rock en espanol is rock.

Well I answered Rap because that is the music I listen the most to, like Immortal Technique, Tiro de Gracia, Orishas, Non Phixion and such..
I listen to a lot, but most of the time the important thing to me is the message of a song. I really like Victor Jara, Los Prisioneros, Molotov, Brujeria, Tierra Sur, Zen, Carlos Puebla and the list goes oooooooooooooonnnn.... I really listen to most kind of music and dont really think that there is so many other people who just listen to one category of music..

What is contemporary rock, seriously please give some examples.

Oh, and Ska is most certainly NOT a sub genre of punk. Some bands have successfully mixed the two but those bands tend to be punk bands that mix in some ska. Ska predates punk so it can't be a subgenre of punk. And the first punk had no Ska elements in it so punk is also not a subgenre of Ska.

Yeah, but it's probably necessary to condense ska into something else in order to make a decent poll when you only have 10 slots alloted to you.

If I made the poll, I would have probably put it in the woefully excluded 'Reggae' option.

You're right, if you are going to groups Ska with something it should be Reggae.

There's some rap/metal groups but you wouldn't group those two genes under one heading.

Well, whatever you wanna call it, CP, you need to have somewhere for rock.

My point was that there is no option for modern rock that isn't punk, metal, prog, etc. And that doesn't only leave pop rock.

Not that I listen to it. Most of it is pretty crappy.

Personally i grew up on death metal. Later I started on punk. And now when im 24 I hear everything from Madball, Carcass till Kool Keith till Joy Division and Bach. So as you have might realised I have a very "wide" taste in music. But still I like the hardcore punk or metal best.

I prefer punk although I like Goth, Metal and Ska.
What I am looking is the essence, the sound as well as the message of the music. Most left artists, especially those who used to hear "working-class, folkish" ones, have a tendency to create music according to their genre to show its message, and not of accumulating profit like lil'wayne or bastardised singers do.
