In my personal opinion, there is no funkier, simple solo than Sublime's 'Santeria'.

never heard the sublime one.

My choices come down to:-

Frank Zappa - Drowning Witch
Frank Zappa - Blessed Relief
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child
Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun (the live version at Fillmore East is so intense)
Pink Floyd - Time

Recently, the solo on the circle by ocean colour scene has blown me away. Also, some of Santana's stuff is pretty awe inspiring. For example the instrumental 'Samba Pa Ti'

Tony Iommi on Black Sabbath

Geezer Butler - "Bassicaly", also known just as intro to NIB

Les Claypool and the Holy Mackeral - Les' cover of "The Awakening"

Primus - "My name is Mud" solo, "Tommy the Cat" solo. "Hamburger Train", whole song.

Anything by Jaco Pastorius.

I meant guitar solo but hey whatever.

I enjoy really rock soloes and of course impressive solos like Dont Fear the Reaper, Jimi etc. but if you listen to the song Santeria by Sublime although not technically great (picked it up very quickly but that happened with Puple Haze too) but it just suits the song so well...

Ah, guitar solo, eh? Ok
Right now I'm really into Clapton, so I'll say the solo Layla by Eric Clapton.
I also really like the solo in Eruption by Eddie Van Halen.
Also the solo from 21st Century Schizoid Man by Robert Fripp
All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix
Child in Time by Ritchie Blackmore
Hotel California by Joe Walsh
Sunshine of Your Love by Clapton
Stariway by Page
Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan
All the great stuff by Jimi, Voodoo Child, Purple Haze, Bold as Love, Little Wing, Fire
Also the Thrill is Gone by BB King
There are dozens I could mention by Jimmy Page, but I don't have enough time.
Also loads of the great stuff by Clapton, like Crossroads, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, White Room, etc.
Comfortably Nubm by Gilmour
Beck's Bolero by Beck
Lot's of stuff by Iommi
Oh good, there's a lot of great guitar solos.

I like the solo in Bob Marley's "Redemption songs". It's catchy and has been sticking with me lately.

That's odd. I was listening to Santeria when I started reading this thread. For sheer face-melting-awesomeness, I turn to Jimmy Page's seminal, ground-shaking Earth-shattering solo on "Stairway." Aside from that, I like "Layla" by Eric Clapton. Uh...I also like the solo on Redemption Song, sitting bull. It's awesome.

If we do mean guitar, then: Anything by Tom Morello, Jimi hendrix, or Jimmy Page. "Sultans of Swing" By Dire Straights has like three solos, all worth hearing.

Also the solo from 21st Century Schizoid Man by Robert Fripp
I love you man. This is the first mention of King Crimson I've seen here.

I'll add some different stuff.
Jimi has Hey Baby and, of course, Little Wing (doesn't even feel like a solo). Also, his cover of Killing Floor.
Duane Allman on a lot of songs
Any solos on the various versions of Cream's Politician
I'd say there is a pretty good work out there by the Fogerty Brothers (I just realized I liked their "Before you Accuse Me" better than Clapton's...).
Anything by Eddie Hazel (Cosmic Slop)

I love King Crimson, man!
In the court of the Crimson King is one of my favourite prog rock albums. Cool album cover too.

You know that 'Tender Surrender' tune by steve vai is partly taken from a song hendrix did at woodstock called villanova junction. They are both damn good.

I got my little brother "In the Court of the Crimson King" for Christmas (b/c he is crazy about the Magnificant Moodies and Jethro Tull).

He hasn't talked to me since.

:(

I like them, though.
