April 1, 2004 will be "National I'm Embarassed By My President Day."

Wear a brown ribbon or armband to protest all the bullshit coming out of the Bush White House. Spread the word!

The idea for this originated at Democracymeansyou.com (http://www.democracymeansyou.com/brown). Click the link for more information.

Good idea, but why why WHY on April Fools?! I guess to signify that Dubya is a fool, but the problem is that people will take the whole thing as a joke, and thats not what we want...

Yes, that is my only dispute with it. Though, if people do really take it as a joke, they could still be generally interested in it and find that it is not. If many people participate, I don't see why anyone would be confused, except in cases where they don't try to figure it out. If the participants convey the message, it should register with the people.

Well, I think brown relating to fascism goes back to the Nazis. They had thugs called brownshirts. But the Nazis' armbands were red, with a black and white logo.

Again, the brown armbands to protest Bush symbolize all the bullshit they keep putting out.

Not to mention that the original inverted form of the swastika was a sign of peace.
Symbols change with the times. As long as we let people know what it means, it works.
Now, to wear a brown armband is to voice decent against Bush and as it suits our movement, I don't see why any able communist wouldn't. To show our solidarity and influance in the community is vital. This is a demonstration that we can join in with many other leftists. We should have more national demonstrations (international too) and continue to be in the "public eye," as is possible.
Anyway, my armband will have an anti-W sticker on it. I think it will improve the band.

Wear your disapproval of the Bush administration on your sleeve... literally. Wear a brown ribbon or armband!

Ok. The big day was yesterday, and I wore my brown armband. Who else was in on it? Any stories to tell?

At the local used bookstore, one of the employees was cool enough to make almost two hundred brown ribbons. She put them around the edges of the poster I put up, so people could come in and take them. I noticed a few dozen missing when I came in yesterday, during the afternoon.

Considering the reaction I got as I handed out flyers, etc., there was potential for maybe getting several hundred people to wear them. Since there were no organized get-togethers, though, I have no idea how many people were actually donning the brown.
