The Mayday collective have cancelled plans for demonstrations this coming Mayday citing Police harrassment, pre-emptive tactics and general "Weariness"..

this sucks. I was excited.
Sounds like pigs are scaring people away...that's pretty out of hand.

I think since 99 the gaffers have been highly organized and ready, they had thousands of hours of overtime (at the tax payers expense) to plan strategies and cosequently trapped demonstraters in large herds making the whole event rather depressing.. We have the lunatic fringe to thank for that...
The January meetings were a dissappointment in regards to new ideas so perhaps a year of reflection isn't such a bad thing.. There will be splinter group demo's and the annual TUC march will go ahead so there is still opportunity to express your solidarity..

In Dublin, the TUC has actually called off the May Day march but there's an EU Summit on May 1st so it's all good. They're calling it off in respect for the festivities that are being held on May Day because of the accession of the 10 new member states.

They are going to have to learn to face the police, I"ve been maced in the face i not only survived after malox to the eyes i cont on for two more hours and confronted the officer who maced me and the media, he was shocked to see me on his horse, stopped.
Revolution is not a day in the park, you have to be ready for resistance, in the US we're been beaten down at protests pretty bad, in my city now after macing babies and lawsuits the police have backed down, but you have to resist to get there,
You think you have police resistance?
Take a look at what MLK went through with the police spraying kids with hoses.
What else do you have to do, sit home and let the police run your lives?

I don't think direct police confrontation is the way forward, we cannot win a physical battle against the pigs - it's stupid to even try.. If that works for you cool.. We'll carry on with the real class war..

Then cause havoc where the police can't enforce it, and overwhelm them when they have vastly inferior numbers.
Defeatist attitudes that lead to radicals acting liberal so they can avoid any slight risk to their person don't help our cause, they help the police.

Actually I was standing on the sidewalk WITH THE PRESS during a Mayday protest, the police on horses were actually stepping on protesters and I had just cried out as they stepped on a 17 yr old girls foot who wasn't even participating but LEANING AGAINST a large corporate department store.
Someone from the press had a quick frame camera and was shooting frame by frame every milisecond when an officer on horse BOUNDED over the crowd, and MACED THE TELEVISION CREW< PRESS, AND ME, Just missing the television correspondent, the camera man said it was the THIRD TIME THAT YEAR they had done that to him, and once terrorized him by seperating him from the rest of the crowd with two officers and macing him directly. THIS WAS CORPORATE media and the warning was clear, STAY AWAY!
That really changed my opinion about where we are in the United States, this was a few years ago. People really need to wake up, in England it's not that bad yet, you guys got to fight for your rights before everything is privatized.
They may fight back but if communities work together even through injunctions, you can make change happen by working in the streets and grassroots efforts, I've seen it and it's really beautiful.

I'm not sure what your cause is mate... I won't be playing into their hands, the pigs or the media..
I'm not worried about risk to my person, I think there are far better ways of demonstrating solidarity, educating people and gaining public support than rucking with pigs and smashing up Mcdonalds..

I went last year and it was a disaster. Mayday this year looks like being a disaster too. Originally all the activists I knew were heading over to Dublin but the latest I'm hearing is that the Wombles are gonna hijack this one...so good luck to them I guess.
Right now I suggest getting together with groups of friends and making plans that aren't documented on the public internet. The element of surprise will work in people's favour.
I work on Saturdays, but I might be able to swap shifts if someone has a good idea. PM me I guess.
