Is it me, or is everything speeding up in the western world? It seems that everything has to be fast to be appealing these days. Take television for instance. Every channel is full of fast-paced and flashy programmes and adverts. It's all down to the corporations. I read somewhere that firms and businesses are trying to sell things as fast as possible, rapid sales now one of the best routes to profit maximisation. This 'speeding up' concerns me. Is mankind strong enough to live at such a fast pace? Take food. Fast-food joints are taking over, wiping out individual establishments. Ask children what their favourite food is, and most will say Mc Donald's. Music is also experiencing a burst of speed, as more and more artists are thrown onto the scene, most of them mass-produced, talent less, pretty-faced fools (Pop Idol etc). These 'artists' churn out low quality music at a frightfully fast rate. That's another thing, quality. As the speed of things increases, quality seems to fall. Everything seems to be losing its value. However, value is not the issue here. The issue is speed. I just don't think mankind is strong enough to live at such a fast pace. I fear we will all be enslaved by speed, or more to the point : corporations, for it is they who seem to be speeding things up.
What do you think?

Things are speeding up in the media, but I'm just going with the flow. Normally I just go fast cause it's natural to me. I walk fast...but as far fast I don't do much else fast. normally I just go at my own pace, but unfortunatly with school I'm forced to go at an abnormal speed to meet my deadlines. *sigh* oh well.

Yeah, I noticed it too.
It's just a case of people becoming more obsessed with things like efficiency, expendability and 'productivity'.

Once the air starts to get stale and the people around you start to look like scarecrows, it's time for a change of scenery. Just take a break. Get out of the city. Travel.

depends on where u live, i think that if u live amongst mainstream society its going to go pretty fast, because the demands of the people these days is when they want something they want it fast and cheap. My freinds that live in a commune, just about 60 miles outside of town don't seem to be sterssed out to get things done very fast at all, it all depends on where u live and what kind of life u live
