Heres the first thing that comes to mind when I see these mall punks shopping at Hot Profit for the pants that have enough material to parachute an elephant, or buying shirts of bands they've never heard of and don't listen to...Does the type of music you listen to influence how you dress, or vise versca?

I do believe that rock stars are the absolute coolest people in the world.
So if I could get my hands on some bell bottoms I would.
Unfortunately the only ones I could come accross are sailor's pants, which have quite big bells.
And that's what I'm wearing right now.
My hair is also influenced by rock stars.
If I could find the right clothes to look my the musicians that I listen to, I would.
I listen to many sorts of music, and I can't afford to look like all the musicians that I like. And I also like other clothes that are in no way influenced by musicians. I think that lots of different styles are cool, many of them I like largely because of musicians, many of them I just thinki are cool.
So I wear many different types of clothes at the same time in a cool type of contrast, or not.
But yes, to answer your question, what music I listen to does influence what i think looks cool and what I wear.

hot topic?
is that an actuall shop, the only place ive heard of it was in the mallmonkeys cartoons, and i thought it was some kind of a joke,
the music i listen to does kind of influence the way i dress in the way that when i go to a concert/gig/whatever i like to buy a t-shirt, otherwise not at all as i would have my ass kicked if i wore clothes for some of the music i like

Nope
i like how some of the band i listen to dress, but i dont try and copy it, one or two have cool hair, but i cant copy that.
I think what they wear is cool, but thats because they are being themselves theyre cool with it. I dress however i feel like, so that im comfertable.
I hate those damn t-shirts with bands names on, or hoodies!!! argh! its like, is taht the best you can do to express yourself?
I agree with Victor, it does influence what i thinks cool, but not how i act or dress or whatever.

yea, i say the music i listen to does influence the way I dress and stuff, but maybe more on a subconcious level. I don't wear or have any desire to wear whatever the lead singer for the mars volta, propaghandi, etc. is wearing. I just wear what i want.

Well...when I used to listen to primarily salsa and go out to salsa clubs/parties/bars....I did find myself wearing colored contacts, platforms and dresses to High School which is just silly in itself.
Also, I've always liked rock that was kinda dark I suppose, I just gravitate towards it...so in HS I said that someday I would go all dark/rocker and just get a whole new wardrobe, but I never had the balls to do it.
Since I've gotten older though... the more I've travelled, the more attention I've paid to my political interests, and the more international contemporary music I've gotten into....the more I've gravitated toward more ethnic clothing and stray from "brand names" and shit...

I just dress comfortably, jeans and t-shirts and keep my hair short because it is easy to deal with that way. So no the music I listen to has nothing to do with how I dress or vice versa.

I try and dress like George Clinton would if he were into Kabbalah..
But mainly I try to blend in with middle aged insurance salesmen... Velour is a particular favourite, sometimes I wear full highwayman costume like Adam ant..

I listen to a lot of different music, rock and reggae mainly. I wear a lot of black, mainly because I think it looks good on me ;P. For some reason I've gotten called a goth. I don't even overdo the eyeliner... I think it's just because I go to school with a bunch of conservative preps, though.
This summer I'm planning on getting dreadlocks, which is definitely influenced by music and lifestyle associated with reggae. I'm sort of afraid of being a poser or something, but I figure I like what I like and people will think what they want.

i hate topics though... i dislike them not to the extreme of hate  :)

I'll have you know the sock cock is merely an accessory, and I only wear it when I'm at work. <_<

I wear what I like, if I like something and I have the money I will buy it, whether or not my favourite rock star wears or wore it, although I want a sgt. peppers suit, just cos they are so damn cool!

Well lets see. I wear shirts with musicians on them... but they're good musicians... like Miles Davis the one I have now. Or Bob Marley or The Who. Word.

personally I just wear whatever the fuck goes or is at the top of the pile, but see a lot of people who wear the music of their 'musical idols' or music that goes with their type of music. most obvious is marilyn manson fans i'm afraid.

I tend to think that some of the people have heard of the bands or musicians whose shirts they wear. I proudly wear my Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Clash shirts, and on more than occasion, I have had an adult ask me if I have ever heard of them, and much to their dismay, I give them short history lessons. But, I don't wear all black shirts, or all band shirts, I just like to wear them every once in a while.

I also wear a flight jacket these days but I got my leather jacket yesterday but I've gotta make it beautiful first ;)
I had a mohawk for about six months but a week ago I got sick of it and I shaved it off.

I have like Ramones' and Stones' t-shirts, but I see lots of kids at school who wear zepplin shirts, and have no idea who they are! It kinda bugs me. In fact, there's a big ad for a radio station in town that uses a stones' tounge to advertise, and a kid came up to me when i was wearing my stones' shirt and asked me if it was a radio station t shirt.

Sometime the music I don't like influences my clothing choices.
Tomorow, for example, i will be wearing a shirt that says
"I KILLED KURT COBAIN"
:P

I must say that the whole black thing sucks now... it just sucks how "rock" is a trend or fashion... damn it, it is a way of life not what you wear and if it has something to do with what you wear damn don't make it so damn obvious that you're just following a trend... example there was this guy first he was all in black and wore nothing but metal bands, next semester this motherfucker is a cholo, mean ganster... not that people don't have the right to change but goddamn it!

I but all my clothing second hand(habitat for humanity is great) or directly from a source (usually a punk band at a show or a commie website) , and I must say that I dess to makemy views known. If I agree with what a band says , i'll wear their stuff. But fuck the cappie hot topic kids. That's about as hypocritical as it gets.

I think it is quite visible that I listen to a lot of reggae... but I also listen to a lot of Hip-Hop and I'd never wear Karl Kani or so stuff.
To give a clear answer: yes.

Of course, I wouldn't buy the shirts if I didn't go to the shows, so i guess my music influences my dress.

i buy shirts from shows, but normally they are far too big and i end up wearing them in bed.
other than that the music i lsiten to has no effect on what i wear, infact if you see me at a hardcore gig i dont fit in at all with what other eople are wearing, or any kind of gig actually.

yes and no. i have maybe four t-shirts with musicians/bands on them. my janis shirt and my clash shirt which i bought from this little independent local music store and then a pennywise shirt and a flogging molly shirt which i got when i went to their shows. i have two tams but not just cos i dig reggae. i like tams. they're beautiful and they keep your hair out of your face and in one place. and that's about it. everything else i have is either beautiful hippy stuff or practical (but not conservative, think more REI or yoga) chilling stuff. i own almost no dress-up clothes which works against me sometimes. there is one "logo", i guess you could call it, that i'm particularly addicted to but it's the philadelphia folk festival banjo. i've got patches and t-shirts from the folk fest everywhere.

i think that everything you wear should express how u feel i wear a leather cop jacket, which symbolizes my hate for the police. i useuly wear a t-shirt and buttons that have a political of personel message (down with bush, che lives, stop u.s. imperialism, etc.) black jeans, and a spike bracelet (not to look "like, sooo punk raawk!" like that poseur avril, but if u get in a fight, u can put it around your knuckles.) so, no, my music doesn't really change how i look.

I have a Siouxsie and the Banshee's shirt and a Sade shirt...which I wear often. I'm planning on getting a Smiths shirt soon...and definently a Dido one when I go see her next month. :D
