View Full Version : British Conservatives - Different?

I find that British Conservatives are different to those in America.

I'm surrounded by conservatives (My Brother, My Godparents, My Grandparents) but they're all (except my Grandad who's more like an authoritarian nationalist.)

But My Brother and I find we both have a lot of common ground (Hating Thatcher, Libertarianism, Hating the Labour Party) I mean we quarrelled a bit when I told him I was a communist but then we were ok.

Then once my godparents came round to visit and when my brother told them I was a communist, one of them just said "that's ok, everyone is at his age, I was."

Now the thing is, my brother I doubt would ever tell my grandad I was a communist, (unless he allready has and I don't know.) I mean, he would like never let me visit again.

But the thing is, most of the conservatives I know seem different to the really staunch conservatives in the US who are like "gun controls are oppressive","we are protecting freedom from reform."

I mean I know people like the American conservatives exist (My brother knows someone who's like "we must crackdown on homosexuals, vegetarians, feminists and other social dissidents") But there don't seem to be as many amungst the people I know, I even know a gay conservative.

Does anyone else notice the same thing?

Conservatives come in many shapes and forms, the most surprising are the crowd round Pat Buchanan in the States. They are isolationists and take up anti war positions. Justin Raimondo runs http://antiwar.com I visit that site often as it is packed with articles and links to independent media.
