Terrence Malick (Director of "The Thin Red Line" and "Badlands," among others) is going to direct a biopic of Che. However, it was postponed because Colin Farrell, that sexy Irish rogue, offered to work with him on some other movie. Also, they are making a movie based on the motorcycle diaries starring one of the guys from Y tu Mama Tambien. What do you guys think about the influx of movies based on Che and his life? I, for one, think it's a mixed blessing- more people learn about Che, but people make money off of his name, and that's no good. I'll still pay to see them, though.

I am not going to see any of those movies, they'll end up to be a cheesy, historicaly incorrect picture as are most "history" movies.

I'm not sure about the motorcycle diaries, but the people involved in the Che biopic are all extremely talented, so I don't think that you can accurately make that statement. There have been many great historical movies, namely Ghandi and X. (The movie about Malcolm X) The director, Terrence Malick, directed "The Thin Red Line," a powerful movie that showed the horrors of war. Really good, really deep stuff.

i am looking forward to it .......but i will be very mad if they make him look bad ....usually movies dont follow what really happened......

I don't see how they could criminalize him if they stayed true to the story.

I worry that people will begin to watch the movie to learn about Che’s life rather than actually reading one of the biographies, as people began to do after Spike Lee made Malcom X.

I also worry that the movie will turn Che into a trend, like the Lord of the Rings movies did with Tolkien’s works. Che’s hardcore fans might have to begin distinguishing between people who knew about him before the movie and those who are just following the movie’s trend.

The masses can be so stupid

I'd be down with lots of people learning about Che and espousing his ideals. Why would that be a bad thing?

I'd be down with lots of people learning about Che and espousing his ideals. Why would that be a bad thing?

Why? Here's why: Some people have a hard-on for keeping things to 'themselves'. Kind of like 'underground' punk-rockers do when their favorite underground band goes big. They can't stand the exposure thinking that it is not 'theirs' anymore. I also think that the exposure will be great.

Now while the movie is completely against Marxist ideals, how can you not love the fact that Benicio is going to be Ernesto?

I will be extremely dissapointed if the movie does portray Che as a 'hero', yet conveys a 'sarcastic' tone over his ideals. I will also be dissapointed if they portray Che as a 'god-like', over the top, hero. While Che was a great man, who accomplished an extreme amount of goals; he was no perfect man who was 'above' the rest of civillians. He had a great amount of courage, yet would not have wanted to be portrayed as 'god-like'.

I hope that the movie turns out good, however many will be dissapointed as many are with all movies. You cannot portray everything over a two hour period, so of course there will be something to complain about.

I look forward to the movie, as with the exposure. I am going to make a huge assumption here, but I would bet the money in my wallet that Che-Lives would experience an enormous member boost after the movie's premier. This may prove good, however too many curious young teens flooding the forums may prove a hassle.

All in all; the only thing I have is curiousity. I look forward to its premier, and I hope it is more of an independent film, of which the largest of production companies wouldn't experience the main profit. Whatever happens, will happen however. No need for a fuss about it.

Personally, I want them to remake Rambo so it stars Che taking out Batista's troops. No depth. Just loads of asskicking. Seriously though, Terrence Malick will do a good job with it. See "The thin red line" if you have any doubts.

I think the movies would have to be hyped up and get a bunch of good reviews for people to actually consider it pop and therefore try to make it a trend otherwise itd be a good cult classic I guess lol
