It is hard to say. Rosa Luxembourg says "Socialism or Barbarism"
Pete Seeger is inspirational and I more or less adopt his approach. Here is an interview with him http://www.wholeearthmag.com/ArticleBin/406.html
heres the important bit not bad for an 81 year old
DK: What sort of advice do you have for young people?

PS: Keep your sense of humor. There is a 50–50 chance that the world can be saved. You—yes you—might be the grain of sand that tips the scales the right way. It's a joyful, very exciting time. Live long!

I tell kids, don't trust the media. The media with their emphasis on fame is helping to destroy this country, helping destroy the human race. It's the plug-in drug. They say, "Well, if we didn't do it, somebody else would." Do you say, "if I didn't rape this woman somebody else would?" It is stupid and it is destructive. Our country is misgoverned largely because of the media. You can't blame it all on the politicians.

There are many people writing songs now. That is absolutely wonderful. Who knows, there may be some kid in diapers and he or she might succeed in capturing in a few dozen words what great writers have spent years trying to say. Just the right word in the right place with the right melody behind it and the right rhythm. It might get around the world inch by inch, and people realize that this world is in danger, that we're in danger. That's the way "This Land Is Your Land" got to be so well known.

I have a feeling a new communist or socialist power is about to arrive. The world's current situation is just about right for it. We have mass opression, greed, war, etc. The whole Americas are in uproar from U$A's foreign policy and just general treatment of these people. Also the middle east is in an uproar and in the midst of war and lot's of violence. People do in fact realize that leftism/socialism/communism are really the only solution and eventually these people will share this recognition with other people and so forth. So eventualyl there will be an uprising and hopefully a large communist power will follow. Hopefully it will be somewhere like Argentina. That would allow for maximum punishment towards the U$A which would be very good right about now.

The FARC has been in the news a lot lately, and usually when that happens with a political group rebelling against an oppressive goverment, it ends up in their favor. The Chapare is exploding, and Argentina's had enough changes in leadership in the past month to last for five revolutions. (Unfortunately, none of the leaders were revolutionary.) I doubt it, but Latin America would be the best bet if there was a revolution.

Resolution Endorsing and Supporting People’s War

in the Colonial and Semi-colonial Countries

Presented at the International Communist Seminar, Brussels, May 2-4, 2001

Whereas, the new world disorder brought about by the neoliberal policies of imperialist globalization validates more than ever before Lenin’ s thesis on imperialism and proletarian revolution,

Whereas, in accordance with the theory of uneven development, it is incumbent on Marxist-Leninist parties to identify the weakest link in the world capitalist system in order to take advantage of the most favorable conditions for the advance and victory of revolutionary war,

Whereas, it is in the colonial and semi-colonial countries most exploited and oppressed by imperialism that the highest potential exists for waging armed revolution led by the proletariat,

Whereas, such armed revolutions in the form of people’s war led by the working class are currently being waged and are steadily advancing in Colombia, India, Nepal, Peru, Philippines, Turkey, and others, with working class parties in some other countries preparing to doso,

Whereas, the advance of people’s war in these countries directly weakens the entire capitalist system,

Whereas, such weakening of monopoly capitalism in combination with inter-imperialist contrdictions renders conditions more favorable for the advance of revolutionary class strugglesin the imperialist and former socialist countries, until such time that armed revolutions led by Marxist-Leninist parties could be successfully launched and waged in these countries,

Whereas, the proletarian struggles in imperialist and formersocialist countries likewise weakens monopoly capitalism and thereby contributes to the advance of people’s wars in colonial and semi-colonial countries,

Therefore, be it resolved

That the signatories, participants of the International Communist Seminar held in Brussels, Belgium on May 2-4, 2001, endorse and support the people’s wars led by the working class in Colombia, India , Nepal, Peru, Philippines, Turkey, and other countries.

The weakest link in imperialism is possibly turkey. This may change. Turkey is America's greatest military exporter.

Turkey isn't allowed into the EU cause of its very, very bad human rights record. The Fascist Turkish Government seems to b going through the same phrase the British went through in regard to northern ireland in the mid-70s and early-80's- they are trying to break the resisitance groups in the prisons (with F-blocks) hundreds of prisoners and thier supporters are on hunger strike, but a revolution seems unlikely- Turkey is the USA's starving dog (Israel is it well fed lap dog), it gets thrown an odd scrap to keep it begging for more.

is a revolution an option in such hi-tech, urban societies as the USA and the UK? would it be a case of Mao/Che style of gainning the support of rural areas (southern states in USA) and using them as a base to infiltrate the cities... i dunno...

What Happened to Turkey?
The real working class demonstrations are on the 14th of April

Turkey once again witnessed mass demonstrations on Monday (11-04-2001). During the march and meeting organized in Ankara some 70 thousand people gathered and there was a fight between the police and some of the demonstrators. More than 120 people were taken to custody and around 200 were wounded including some policemen. Although activists from some leftists groups participated, the following facts openly characterizes the events as a reactionary middle-class attitude..

1. The demonstrations were organized by the chamber of shopkeepers in Ankara.
2. The leader of the chamber is a member the executive committee of the fascist party (MHP), which is also one of the coalition parties.
3. The main group who worked for gathering people for the demonstration is another fascist party (BBP) that is now outside the parliament. One of its leaders who was responsible for killing 400 people in Maras (many progressive people were killed in a massacre organized by the fascists) before 1980 military coupe, Okkes Sendiller led the marching.
4. The chamber's aim is to "speed" the so-called economic reforms! The reforms are, as you know, a full sale for Turkish economy to imperialist countries (privatization, laws for attracting foreign capital etc.). If we combine this with BBP's close relations with US, than every thing becomes more clear.
5. No working class organization or leftist, revolutionary group or party openly declared that it would participate the demonstration.
6. No banner or flag or any sign about a class-based demand was witnessed.
7. The crowd shouted islamic or fascist slogans.
8. The crowd attacked some women who were not wearing islamic clothes.
9. The crowd attacked a students hostel and chased girls.
10. There is clear evidence that the security forces "wanted" some action.
a) They did not search anybody who came for the demonstrations. In Turkey people are searched at least twice in every mass meeting.
B) Trucks full of people and stones were permitted to come inside the meeting area, which is impossible in other meetings. All the roads that are near to the meeting area are always closed to traffic.
c) Only 3200 police was following the 70 thousand marching. In 1st of May last year, 23 thousand policemen "escorted" 30 thousand demonstrators!
d) The chamber had decided to organize the demonstration on the 18th of April. But the police chief asked them to change the date to 11th of April.
11. Then, we have to ask why?
a) Because there will be demonstrations organized by the trade unions, other working-class organizations, left political parties on the 14th. Now they declared a ban on the demonstrations.
B) Because the big capital and the imperialist countries need a pressure on the government to speed up the "reforms" (and they succeeded, the laws which will have terrible consequences for the working classes is passing through the parliament quickly.)

Who are those people who marched and had a fight with the police? Most of them are shop-keepers and laborers who work for them. There are also jobless people among them. Fascist and radical islamic organizations did always have a strong support from these strata, which is not a surprise for the marxists. It is true that the communists should also work to organize the small shop-keepers especially who are becoming a part of the proletariat in crisis periods. However, Turkish left has a priority to establish a more clear class-basis, in order to attract those waving strata.

This is why, the demonstrations which we will organize (regardless of the decision of the ruling classes to ban it or not) on the 14th (Saturday) in many cities are very important. And the communists will take their banners, slogans to the streets saying: Down with IMF, stop the "reforms", Yankee go home, No to EU, Down with Capitalism.
