RC do you know if this treaty is permanant and is part of America or if it is similiar to Britain with Hong Kong and based on a limited lease before they hand it back. I find it bemusing that the Americans weren't forced to return it.

El Commandante... although part of the treaty that ended the Spanish American war... it was reworked in the 20's or 30's so that the US holds it forever. There isn't any plan of giving it up.

After the September 11, Americans have free hands to do what ever they wish ( unfortunately ) Cubans see the base as the provocation, but let us be realistic. If Bush says ( stupid as he is ) : " If you are not with us, you are with them ", that would endanger Cuba if Fidel would decide to make an issue about terrorists on Cuban soil. If you ask me, it is better to be political wise now, than push our cause, next thing you may know is sudden strike on Havana - nothing must not surprise us from American side.
