I went to a republican site.

Warning.
Under the Treason Felony Act 1848, it is treason if "any person whatsoever, within the United Kingdom or without devise or intend to deprive our most gracious Lady the Queen from the style, honour or Royal Name of the Imperial Crown of the United Kingdom." This web site, that advocates democratic alternatives to monarchy, is therefore illegal in Britain.

Well we're a dictatorship that's why it's illegal to argue the case against the monarchy on paper.

you have to swear an unconditional oath to the queen to stand in parliament.

At least in Spain it's like "I will swear loyalty to the king only if the king upholds the rights of the people, otherwise no"

what if you refuse. What if you say "the Queen is no different than me, all men are created alike, and noone is by virtue of brith anything more or anything less than anyone else"? thats what i would say. Either that or "shuv your queen up your arse"

If you refuse, you can't debate or vote in parliament.

It's her "jubilee" this year. We get an extra day holiday. My mum says she's going to buy us something to remember it by. I think i'll just ignore what she gives me.

That holiday is right royally pissing me off, it's screwed around the school holidays, in the UK if you are in education then you don't actually get any extra time off, the half term has just been moved. So as a result it has mucked up the usual times for the exams.

Bloody cow!

Well, here in Canada the queen isn't even part of our conversations, we have nothing to do with her and STILL we have her on our money. WHY????? At least now we're having some debate against her, problem is, even those against monarchy say "well, it's not important" so they leave things as they are.

changing things for ideological reasons doesn't help anyone. It makes no difference.

Yup...I'm quite "folish" indeed. Do you really think there would be any perceptible difference if Canadians removed the Queen from their currency.

We dont need the royalty to get tourism, people hardly ever see the royalty anyway. What people come to see are tha palaces etc, and the fact of the matter is they will see more of that if the royalty vacates it.
After all, the french have no monarchy, but loads flock to see the french palaces, and they no longer have a monarchy... and they're no longer ruled by the emporers either, and yet still people go to see the arc de triumphe

I think tourism is good for poor countries. I wish
all the tourists to go to the poor countries at least once,
especially Cuba because of the people's struggle against the embargo. I would not be too upset with loosing revenue and jobs in the city of London but its a cruel world under capitalism and personal decisions have to be made. But I have found that boycotting the pub does not make the pub close down. I say boycott the Queen, she is the figurehead of British imperialism,
which is disguised by the word commonwealth. Commonwealth my arse. close down the Queen.
