I know this is a highly controversial question, but in your opinion whats the most effective way to reform a repressive government? Through peaceful methods or violent means?
(I will play devils advocate)

Depends on the material conditions. Some governments can be reformed. Look at the change in position of the Communist Party of Egypt towards Nasser when he started pursuing a more populist line, thanks to the pressure they put on him. Other governments can't be, like Saudi Arabia. It's a repressive monarchy. It won't change without revolution from the masses.

Well, I think it goes without saying that peace is better than war. The real question should be "Is a peaceful transformation of society possible?", and on that I unfortunately think not. I think history has shown enough that the ruling class don't give up power with out a fight. I mean these are the people who set up police forces, militaries etc. and use violence to keep their status as the ruling class, so it just seems doubtful to me a peaceful transformation is possible.
