Honoring worker leadership
National Domestic Workers Alliance
Dear Chris,
I’ll be honest with you – we considered not celebrating NDWA’s 10th Anniversary because of how much work there is to do right now.
But the idea that we should lead with love feels more salient than ever. And the idea that in 10 years, low-income women, mostly women of color, who do some of the most undervalued work in our economy, have built a powerful organization that is changing the future for the workforce — that feels worth celebrating.

In particular, we will be honoring three women who were nominated and voted in by their fellow NDWA members for their contributions to the movement and our alliance:

Allison Julien is a co-founder of the National Domestic Workers Alliance. She was a key leader in the seven-year campaign for the New York Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, and has been working hard since to ensure its implementation. In 2015, Allison was awarded NDWA’s Dorothy Bolden Fellowship.

Namrata Pradhan began organizing domestic workers in 2011 with Adhikaar, an NDWA affiliate organization. She co-founded Hopewell Care, a worker-owned childcare cooperative. Namrata is a graduate of NDWA’s Strategy Organizing Leadership program, and currently is serving her second term on our Board of Directors.

Maria Reyes has been an active member of Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA), one of the NDWA’s founding member organizations, since 1999. She has supported new organizing among Latina domestic workers throughout the country, mobilized countless other domestic workers to build support for the California Bill of Rights Campaign and provided inspirational leadership in We Belong Together.
