Left Wing? Well, there is always good 'ol Midnight Oil. They sing about Aboriginal rights in some song. I dunno much about them though.
Cog aren't too bad. I heard them at the Falls Festival. Thinking about it, I've actually heard some hippy/greenie bands, but they aren't that great.

To be completely honest here isn't really an established aussie political music scene outside of the rap world which is mostly shit, but if you know about australian immigration and aboriginal policies the i agree listen to 77% by the herd. better yet listen 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 by midnight oil. politics borders closely on social comment here umm who else does it... area 7, i'm sick of the john butler crap, i'd rather xavier rudd or the beautiful girls (last 2 not political really) umm paul kelly does some okay aussie folky stuff with political comment; see from little things big things grow. we have some bad unoriginal pop punk here that thinks it's political. We have accidentally political bands like the hard-ons who are loved nazi skinheads in europe just because they're hard and fast. umm we actually do have stuff like the warumpi band which is an aboriginal band with political comment and then we have some other great aboriginal political musicians who amazingly aren't rap archie roach i recommend his album looking for butter boy and then we have jimmy little. fuck i can't be bothered anymore. Most oz politics is either gangsta style rap with thick oz immigrant accents or it's imported (vocalists for both the resin dogs and for 1200 techniques) or it's people putting shit on wannabe homeboys and saying how rap is shit amazingly enough... in a rap song. just buy some midnight oil
