[God Blessed America]
This Land Was Made For You And Me

This land is your land, this land is my land
From [the] California to the [Staten] New York Island,
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf stream waters,
[God blessed America for me.]

As I went walking that ribbon of highway
And saw above me that endless skyway,
And saw below me the golden valley, I said:
[God blessed America for me.]

I roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts,
And all around me , a voice was sounding:
[God blessed America for me.]

Was a high wall there that tried to stop me
A sign was painted said: Private Property,
But on the back side it didn't say nothing --
[God blessed America for me.]

When the sun come shining, then I was strolling
In wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling;
The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting:
[God blessed America for me.]

One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple
By the Relief Office I saw my people --
As they stood hungry, I stood there wondering if
[God blessed America for me.]

----

I like this song. Unfortunately people edited the crap out of it, and I can't seem to find a file with these origional lyrics anywhere. If you know where I can get the origional song, mp3 or whatever, tell me.

I remember we had to sing this back in elementary school but unfortunatley I don't remember how it goes anymore. I don't think they have the little kiddies singing that version though, I wonder why.

This Land Is Your Land

Woody Guthrie

I don't know if you've tried downloading that from any filesharing programmes Drake, but give it a shot, as I am right now. I'll let you know if you don't find out first. I see there are different lengths available...

This reminds me of Woody Guthrie's song, "I Love L.A." which was played by TNT during their coverage of this years NBA All Star game. The song was meant to be ironic, but it has obviously been interpreted as a celebration by many.

How long is it? I wasn't able to find a version on a filesharing programme. Do you know what album it was released on, if any?

it's about 3.5 to 4 minutes long. i got it from a "best of woody guthrie" memorandum CD at the library and then popped it onto the itunes on my mac. there it sits in mp3 format ready to be sent to whoever needs it. woody would approve.
