Chavez has been elected by the people of Venezuela and he has the support of the majority of the poor. The right-wing opposition has twice tried to remove him from power. The first time, they tried a military coup which failed. The second time, there were mass demonstrations and denounciations by the anti-Chavez media. This also failed. The very fact that the media is so openly opposed to him and hundreds of thousands can demonstrate against him contradicts the accusations of Chavez acting like a dictator. What has he done wrong? He is trying to make his country more independent and improve the living standard of the poor people. If the opposition wants to get rid of him, they can wait until the election in 2007. Its not so long away. Then we can see if the majority want Chavez to stay in power or leave.

Remember what happened in Chile over 30 years ago. The far right-wing was accusing Allende of being dictatorial. They called him an extremist when in fact his reforms were moderate. They demonized him and with US help, carried out a campaign of sabatoge and lies. When they managed to get rid of him, the right-wing military unleashed a campaign of terror against the people. They started rounding up and slaughtering thousands of people. The same thing could happen in Venezuela.
