That said, I'm waiting for the DSA to adapt the pre-WWI SPD model to American conditions. I'm waiting for a DSA-organized network of food banks, for example.

Hmmmm, I happened to come across a fairly recent local DSA-sponsored anti-privatization 'town hall' around the threatened partial privatization of a municipal public library, but I haven't incidentally seen much else.

I really don't think that what you're suggesting is a proper function for a leftist political group -- it lets the government off the hook, when centralized public services really should be *expanded*, cutting against cutbacks.

The DSA is a capitalist organization, they have no true interest in workers power. Their strategy of organisation is not the building of mass movements but the tagging along of social democratic movements, of which they are themselves social democrats. It amazes me why so many people support the DSA, join an actual communist party, you might respond with "lenin built himself in a soc dem party" but did he really? Because at that time social democrats were revolutionary. Not to mention that even if the DSA did support a revolution they wouldn't know how to have a proper party structure to weed out bourgeoisie counter revolution and have an iron grip dictatorship of the proletariat.

I agree with your latter statement, but not your former. The pre-WWI SPD provided many services which "let the government off the hook," but the German worker-class movement for itself was developed in this manner.

Okay, good point -- I'm thinking Black Panthers myself. I would say if it's 'internal' to the political organization, and obviously necessary, then there's no point *not* to do it. Specifically politicizing the issue for the government to do it would be reformism, anyway, but it seems like that could result from state 'compromises' in the face of more-militant demands and revolutionary activity.

I think that one of the main reasons of why social-democratic politicians in USA are more powerful, than socialist politicians that are far to the left, that stay far to the left and loyal to marxist basic theories. Is that the social-democratic left has more economic power, than the left that is loyal to marxism. The leftist organizations that are followers of marxism do not have the necessary resources to create a TV channel (like Free Speech TV) which is good but Free Speech TV is a social-democratic alternative news source, not a socialist news source
