Hands Off Haiti demo draws attention to imperialist coup!
Young Left and Black Youth United as well as a number of allies staged a demonstration on Feb. 29th to draw attention to the US and French orchestrated coup d'etat that has taken place in Haiti. The action successfully drew attention to what is really going on, but is only the beginning.
Taking place outside of a retail sector in downtown Toronto that was home to sweatshop owners in Haiti like Disney store and Levi's, we made the conections between US military power and corporate exploitation in Haiti. Hundreds of flyers were distributed and we were all over the news. One of the news stations somewhat patronizingly referred to our "allegations" of US involvement and orchestration, but today more and more the info is confirming what we said all along (see what un owen posted):

"200 years later,
we still want them out,
200 years later,
reparations now!"
"Haiti for Haitians!"
Afterwards people gathered at our Cafe Che to watch the movie "Bitter Cane" about the imperialist plunder of Haiti and then watch some spectacular spoken word and drumming performances by local artists.
You can see about 15 seconds or so of our demo on Pulse24:
