View Full Version : American Car Owners

There is apparently a spontaneous e-mail circulating on the internet urging American car owners to boycott Exxon-Mobil gas stations as a protest against artificial gasoline shortages and rising prices.

The idea seems to be that this oil-giant will be forced to reduce its prices in order to maintain its market-share.

I do not own a car myself...and I have no idea if this strategy will actually "work".

But I thought I would pass it on to all of you "for what it's worth".

A similar thing happened in Europe when Shell wanted to sink the Brent Spar to the bottom of the sea. The protests were quite fierce, especially in Germany, and Shell was forced to have the platform dismantled (although this was the least desirable option).

In general consumer boycotts have worked rather well, so possibly this one as well.

the esso/exxon/mobil campaign has been going for a couple f years now -believe it has been quite sucessful in the uk.

there was a massive action a whiles ago where every mobil station in luxomberg (i think?) was shut by activists for a day.

stop esso (http://www.stopesso.org/) is a good place to check out

i believe the campaign started about the same time that bush pulled outta kyoto

I'd boycott, if we had any exxon or mobil stations where I live. Do they supply Texaco, Arco, Shell, or 76?

Why the hell would only AMERICAN car owners need to boycot this? Don't most of the cars we buy here containt American parts in on way or another?

Most big U.S. companies are responsible for atrocious crimes. If you really want to do something like this, blow up Exxon stations. Hell, if I actually knew I could get a large amount of people to participate in an action like this in various places around the world, I would do it.(Although for the sake of decency, I would either wait until the places close, or drive out the people working and shopping in the place.)

Yea that would be a great move. Blow up a gas station! Go for something that can't fight back! You are a real man!

Do you really think that that will do anything? All they will do is raise the price of gas and YOU will end up paying for it anyway!

Bravery? Ha! The leaders of Exxon are plotters of murder, thiefs, and thugs. I hate them, they are just as ferocious as any dictator. It is much to be lamented that sick people such as them were not murdered by the people who have been killed in their name.

i buy my gas at wawa and citgo. citgo is venezuelan oil and not so bad but i don't know much about where wawa gets its stuff from. all i know is that it's the cheapest.

i buy my gas from the nearest gas station when i need it, its an inelastic comodity if the price goes up people still need it and thus still pay, unlike bannanas or apples where the cheaper they are the more likely you are to buy them

thats good, count me in the boycott. The "shortage" of gas will push people to invest in alternate forms of transportation and fuel instead of paying in blood at the pump for the precious gasoline of corporations. We don't need polluting fossil fuels anymore, what we need are ways to travel that won't fuck up the environment and our future.
