At the mo I'm getting into hardcore and emo in a way I never have before. It's all good stuff, I'm becoming a lot more aware of the stuff I listen to and how it relates to the big record companies and shit, and whether it's actually any good.

I'm also trying to make the best I can of the past, because there's a lot I don't know about music. My newest CD is the Shape of Punk to Come by Refused and it's fuckin' awesome.

Actually the very first stuff I bought was Three Lions on a Shirt ('96) and the first album was Spice by the Spice Girls (I've even seen them live). Those were both on cassette, then I spent a long time without music, then moved onto CD's.

My first few that I can remember are Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt (my first even non-classical CD) and the next one i can remember is The Man Who by Travis. I did the whole Stereophonics thing, got Parachutes by Coldplay, got some Oasis, then moved on to Greenday and Placebo.

Then things really changed, HIM, Slipknot, Cradle of Filth to name but a few.

Strange really, if I look at my CD collection now, (which I did this evening, since I reorganised it whilst avoiding homework). It includes Aqua, DJ Shadow, Give up the Ghost, NIN, Marilyn Manson (every album since they because just MM, Not MM and the sppoky kids), Jimmy eat World, Ani DiFranco, and more.

Isn't it weird how we mix up our music.

I guess this is just a ramble, but I've enjoyed it all the same. Hope i haven't bored you shitless! Please feel free to ramble or comment briefly, as you like.

The Shape of Punk to Come was my first hardcore record. Incidentally, most people still call Give Up the Ghost American Nightmare, only their last record is under the name GUTG. And they're pretty shit, the latest record's the only one I really like.

To answer your question: kinda. I'm diversifying in a few ways, listening to a lot more old skool and little smatterings of metal and hip hop but I'm really siked on The Streets and Dizzee Rascal right now.

I have all the spice girls cd's! What a loser! That was from back when I was in second grade though. At that time I was also into gangsta rap only because my brother was. I could listen to warren g and nate dog's "regulator" followed by "wannabe". I was a strange little girl.

My taste in music has evolved so much though. From being a die hard blink 182 fan in middleschool to CCR. But I've been listening to CCR all my life, that hasn't changed.

Right now I've been listening to mariachi music :D

I listen to everything. Minus banda, corridos, country and clubbing musak.

I have a really odd collection of music cuz of my growing up I suppose. I grew up in the 80's...but we didn't have cable, well we still dont, so no Bon Jovi and shit.

I grew up in the inner city in NorCal, so I was raised on NWA, Tupac, New Edition, BBD, and soul like Marvin Gaye from my older brother's influence.

My mom was listening to Spanish ballad singers, while my dad was listening to the Beatles, Creedence Clearwater, Sade, Carpenters and shit.

My best friend was Peruvian and I spent 90% of my time at her house listening to salsa 24/7.

I had always liked alternative and rock because of school chums....then as a teen I raved a bit so trance came into my life lol.

I took French for about 5 years so I have french albums also...

So yeah...my collections a tad bit insane cuz I'm still expanding to other genre's like Spanish rock, Jazz, Metal, Industrial, Trip Hop etc etc.

I think I've been into almost every musical genre, other than classical and country (though there is some that I like but on the more folkish end of things) at one stage. At the moment, I'm listening to pretty much everything other than the above and dance music (have to listen to a bit of pop every now and then :P . I think about my progression to a varied taste in music quite a lot. If you look at my physical cd collection, it's comprised almost entirely of hiphop/rap cd symbolising a stage where I listened to nothing but that. It's beginning to change though, some punk and metal slipping in there.

GR, I've always known them as GUTG, so that's what I'll call them. I know most people call the American Nightmare, but we all understand each other, so it's ok. And I quite like them.

I went to one of my friends' house today, and she was playing some really cool trance-y stuff. Well I don't know, it may be something else, but I can't remember the name. I'm planning on borrowing it, so when I get hold of it I'll let you know!

Comrade BNS, that sounds really cool. I've never really listened to World music, but it's something I'm interested in, so maybe in the future I'll check it out.

EneME, I'd love to see your record collection!!

I used to listen to alot of Metal. Not Death Metal, or really heavy Slipknot-ish stuff, but like Deftones-ish stuff.

Now I listen to alot of Laibach (the choral stuff is amazing), Primus, The Clash, Murder City Devils, Cake (yeah, they really aren't that talented), Marley, Violent Femmes, and assorted other stuff.

Um I guess I am moving in the same direction as MB, I spent a paycheck on cds and dvds by 'emo' and hardcore bands, but I've got no complaints :D

I liste to a lot of stuff, '77 punk, some hardcore, ska, reggae (not nu-reggae/nu-ska, I mean stuff from the carribean) some (very little) rap, I am growing fond of metal, and I hate to admit it, but I like some of the new style of punk.

I don't know what it is about it, but reggae makes me so much less of an asshole when I'm around people. It's just so...soothing

I always try to keep my mind open to music. The type that I most recently started listening to was some soul music.

When I was a kid I listened to whatever my parents were listening to, until I met some friends in secondary school, who were into Nu-Metal and later Nickelback, Brian Molko and Slipknot.
At this point I had an interest in Pop EDM, but didn't have the cash to buy my own CDs.
My interest in EDM really kicked off when I got regular 'net access and so could get music at no cost.
I think the complete transfer from Nu-Metal to EDM completed when I found internet radio and di.fm, I could listen to it 24/7, It's also when I found out that EDM is subdivided into genres and not just 'techno'. I've been into EDM for about 2-3 years now.
I'm glad I found it, It's opened up a whole new world.

Although recently I have been trying to diversify... Just looking for some good reggae (Apart from Marley)
Also Bhangra and World Music I've been looking into. Good stuff.

I guess I was originally a classic rock kid, I grew up on Queen and Nirvana. Although Quen were always my top band. I did like most things at the time though, especially Michael Jackson, Bad era and also this track by Ace of Base. I went through various phases, my heavier phase of deftones, nirvana and silverchair at about 13...but as I hit 15 I was getting into more varied stuff. I was into Stravinsky and other styles. I found Blues and Jazz. The band I was in also moved away from all the rock, at 16 the blues band was going, and we started dabbling in improv blues/jazz/funk with a rock twist. We got more gigs, and we got more adventurous...we scaled down the 16 person strong group to the core 5 and we still reform periodically when the drummer gets back from his music scholarship. As I turned 17 I was more or less open to anything, and would play over a jingle, humming, car noises...anything. I guess now I don't ven know anymore...I think this openess phase has outlived the others..and UI will be stuck here for a while.

progressive, I think. I don't really know what you would call abstract music like "the mars volta" (at the drive-in, etc.)

mental bunny very interesting i was talking to friends about this the otherday,

how we used to hate trendy trash like drum and bass, yet now i love it

I am working on my own music which is drum and bass versus korn and pantera, thrash guitar and fast beats with basslines.

its about time we harmonised some scene
