I don't want to be picky, but there never was a 'communist' country. There's certainly not one now.

But, in any case I'll go with Cuba, it has nice weather.

Cuba is a deffinite, fantastic healthcare and schooling, if little else. Intellectual freedom and the meeting of basic needs is all I think can be expected from a country, and Cuba is just about there.

China's more of a dictator/socialist state, muchlike Cuba.

I wouldnt call Cuba 'intellectual freedom'. Could you speak out as much against Castro as you can in America about Bush? I mean, there's books all over American libraries filled with Anti-Bush crap. I dont think Castro would be too accepting of that in his country (if it were about him).

Also, what about religion? If Castro was (or still is) a communist, I'm assuming he wouldn't want places of worship built.

Actually there are churches in Cuba, even though Castro is an atheist.

My choice would be Cuba. China seems more like authoritarian capitalist.

China's more or less a capitalist state these days. Though the Chinese government doesn't openly support capitlaism, it's pretty much understood this is the path China is heading down.

Not to destroy all your fantasies, but China is only waiting for a good reason to openly call itself capitalist.

I'd say Cuba. China is openly capitalist with severe restrictions on personal freedoms. Vietnam is struggling, and North Korea isn't even considered to be, by any means, Marxist.

As Left had pointed out earlier, There aren't any Communist State's in existence. I'm almost certain you mean to say Socialist... and in that regard, I honestly could not pick anyone at this point as they all have too many shortcomings. Naturally I'm aware of the fact all countries have their particular shortcomings, however those countries practicing forms of Socialism simply aren't fairing as well as one would think they should be at current.

China for ONE = Capitalist (Hong Kong is noted as the largest exhibition of free market capitalism in the world), not to mention the numbers of Authoritative restrictions one has on their means to freedom and life there. As far as I'm concerned China has lost it's touch entirely with Marxist ideal... as Mao would be severely disappointed. <_<

China's definitely becoming as capitalist as it can be. i can say that for sure cuz i was actually there.

Now thanks for telling that like for 220,343,634 time that there havent been any communist "states".Im sure you get that he meant socialistic states that are in world.

My pick would DPRK.

Seeing as how no Socialist state has been given a fair chance, Cuba is unfortunately the best as they can get.

I would certainly not pick North Korea.
I've heard that Kim Jong Il has been acused for testing cemical weapons on women and children.
Of cause this is not certain yet, and it could be cappie lies, but there's a chance.

why is everyone so nit picky, there has been to communist state yadda yadda yadda, you no exactly what he means for gods sake just answer the question.

Saint-Just
28th February 2004, 16:22
I would say the DPRK.

China is a horrible capitalist country, worse than the U.S. Socialist ideas are repressed in China and people are brainwashed to be right-wing capitalists like in the U.S. The country is also national-chauvanist nowadays, more so than the U.S. too. Their 'censorship' is a fraction of what it once was and will end up at U.S. levels I think. The CPPRC is like an ideal Trotskyist party, full of factions.

Theres very little choice of communist countries to admire, I think the question is better asked about communist countries throughout history. In which case my choice would be USSR.

The most Socialistic of all these nations at present has to be Cuba. They appear to have been more committed to the Socialist path and have been noted for their great successes in Healthcare and Education. Cuba would almost certainly benifit further from normal diplomatic and trade relations with the USA.

China is Socialist in name only, and the government there appears to be discovering how much capitalist potential they really have.

North Korea and Vietnam I don't know much about. I hear that Vietnam is beginning to turn in the same direction as China, which would be very sad indeed. North Korea is quite a difficult country to find any good books on, although I cannot see how trying to develop Nuclear Arms would serve to help the people of North Korea in any way.

North Korea is the worst of "Socialist" countries! The prison conditions are appalling, the people of North Korea and elsewhere are subjected to abduction by North Korean officials, public executions are part of daily life, the distribution of food is discriminatory, freedom of just about anything political is banned, starving citizens recieve punishment for leaving their towns or villages, torture is regularly used, Human Rights monitors are kept from studying atrocities, whole families are punished do to a supposed crime of one of its members, religious freedom doesn't exist, the people are banned from mass organization, the starvation is one of the worst in the world, and the dictator ruling that country is a corrupt little man who cares little about the people. North Korea is one of the worst nations to live in in the entire world.

I hear the freedom in Sweden is nice this time of year. As is the healthcare and education system. Eating and houses are apparently good commodities too. And after having all your basic needs met you still have money left over to use as you please.
So I hear.
Sure its not communist, but hey. You don't get jailed for not liking the leaders. And thats always cool in my book.
Yup. freedom is real nice this time of year.
Yay socialism! People aren't so enormously greedy that you're impossible to acheive!
I love you socialism oh yes I do!

Well if you want to be serious here, Democratic Socialists have been crushed so far by the United States. Some could even reasonably speculate that had Castro not been subjected to such internationl terrorism and economic strangulation from the U.S., he may have actually made Cuba a Democracy. Although in terms of today's world, Sweden seems (Although I have yet to experience it) to be a great place to live in comparison to other nations.

Sweden is a great country (i'm visiting it every second week-end), but though they have a socialistic party leading their country, i don't think that they're socialists.
Just think of the fact that they are in the EU.

There's neither workers' democracy nor a nationalised and planned economy, pretty much rules it out of being a socialist country.

I'm pretty sure there's a social-democratic government there.

There is and probably wont be a truly communist country ever.

Cuba is the only good example of a socialist country that we have seen albeit not a fully socialist country.

sadly i cant see it, the developed world is too far down the Cap. path now, it will never change. I think the lesser developed places of the world can still be saved from Capitalism and brought over to Communsim...maybe

It is exactly the opposite, according to Marx. If Communism is to be achieved, then it will start in the most advanced capitalist countries.

Fidel Castro
29th February 2004, 21:21
So far, all nations that have attempted to achieve communism have been underdeveloped, or developing nations. The most developed nations, e.g. USA, Japan, UK show little sign of turning to communism.

Perhaps Marx was mistaken in his theory that the most capitalistic nations will lead the way towards Communism.

Solace

No country reached total socialism or certainly not Communism. They all took elements of the ideology. Cuba is good in terms of redistribution of the wealth (majority of the population) and so is Belarus for the collectivized properties.

I still wouldn't call Cuba fully socialist. It has thid itchy tendancy to lean to capitalism. Maybe 50/50.

----

So far, all nations that have attempted to achieve communism have been underdeveloped, or developing nations.

They all suceeded tremendously! Look the "heritage" they left. No sign of left policies in Russia.

That doesn't mean that Marx was wrong. Communism is not for anytime soon. You need material conditions and particular social situations. The bigger the inequality gap is, the more successful a revolution will be.

Just give time the time to do its time.

i remember watching a program about nano technology (ppl in uk might of seen this) anyway there was a thereoy that one day the world economy would collapes because on some shit about how Silicone chips would no longer be able to handle the growing demand for power bla blah blah anyway if this happens then the whole western world will get fuckd (that what they said anyway) so maybe this will lead to communism or maybe not
