[EmergencyResponseforUSAttackonIranorSyria] Friday Emergency Protest Demo-- Against U.S. interference in Cuba

How about opposing the continuing U.S. government efforts to interfere in Cuba and bring about regime change there, which the U.S. ruling class has tried to engineer since the Revolution of 1959?

We can expect that on Friday President Trump is going to announce further plans for interfering in Cuba. This is the context for an emergency protest demonstration on Friday from 4:30-5:30 at the Chicago Federal Building, 230 S. Dearborn.

Basic demands include:

1. Oppose the continuing U.S. economic warfare /blockade against Cuba. This illegal blockade flies in the face of international opposition, as reflected in the last UN vote against Washington’s blockade of 192 to zero (with two abstentions).

2. Return the territory of Guantanamo illegally held by the U.S.

3. Ensure the right of freedom to travel to Cuba for Americans and to the U.S. for Cubans.

This demonstration has been initiated by the Chicago Cuba Coalition.

Guess what excuse Trump is using to re-tighten the blockade on Cuba? Human rights!

This is a concern that somehow does not arise when dealing weapons to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, or Israel, or when considering the consequences of overthrowing governments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya.

Tightening restrictions on travel and trade with Cuba is bad for peace, bad for business, bad for U.S. patients deprived of Cuban medicine, and unpopular even among Cuban Americans.

Trump may be catering to two other concerns: an extreme rightwing ideology that worships militarism and romanticizes even the worst episodes of the past, and Trump's own business dealings. Trump dances with Saudi beheaders, not Cuban socialists. Trump has business dealings in Saudi Arabia, not Cuba.

Neither we nor Congress need go along with Trump's agenda on Cuba.

Click here to tell Congress to step in, end the embargo, and return all land at Guantanamo to Cuba. (http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=H314hLb%2FyQWy4BdZOsDb9BDbtdjQqAVO)
