We know that prisoners are degraded, abused, and exploited in the United States. But female prisoners are subject to a whole other level of inhumanity, as pregnant prisoners are commonly shackled to the table during childbirth.
Our "justice" system is treating pregnant prisoners like animals. We cannot let this continue. (http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AXo_b/ztBK/t8hl)
Shackling women during childbirth is not only degrading, but incredibly dangerous and painful. Women can't help but move and pull against their restraints during labor, inflicting harm upon themselves and sometimes the baby.
Many of the country's leading medical experts, like the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have spoken out against this horrifying and dangerous practice.
