Tuesday: Make sure Google’s Diridon project serves our community

Silicon Valley Rising

Dear Chris,

Google has announced plans for a major new campus surrounding Diridon Station in downtown San Jose. This is a huge project that would transform our city and bring up to 20,000 new Google employees to San Jose.

Right now, we have the opportunity to make this project truly visionary and ensure Google's growth contributes to a more inclusive Silicon Valley. The development relies on incredibly valuable public land and billions in public infrastructure investments — resources that should serve the public good.

Next Tuesday, the City Council will take a pivotal vote on entering into exclusive negotiations with Google and developer Trammell Crow. This is our moment to ensure the project addresses the needs of everyone in our community.

Join us in calling on the City to require critical community benefits as a part of any agreement with Google (http://click.actionnetwork.org/mpss/c/5QA/ni0YAA/t.287/n3p1VsvaRGCfdOwSc66Pkg/h0/WQ-2BlIwq7W2eCmkkcwbDiBbbPwUfyzAVeutdE2lG-2FrPc16Mu3lQA1fWrv9p5joZZOr2oKQhKkif9qVwZyJULByip-2FBt19Ipnqh7A9zp5O4jwxQUG9yVRJBzq-2BTSLs2gLbWUyk6DW9qXklChwW8PQmKz-2B1VvpWRC1ku6qKq8E8WP-2Fy-2Fp1CPhWcVU5iqnnrEzLRMWqR1hs9QRlu20FWJLyA6k0o6BMG4 tgTlhnxqweQNcd60E8MfPzzQaF6t7C7gDC9L5eKNjAcDxMrymL pgYvTNSqwbX5nAI70eBGmyK7xXM5m0YZxbAZvx0-2Bv34S-2Be53WqS6BEcb0AiOKBIJQJUCVSig4GwTIt682Td-2BG542VFxcJnVsUNFfEv0sBmvcFLv-2B-2BgsTV-2Fb83lLvaCMtNQBQtkW-2FvDqjtmjyE1rR873-2Bm9DoFtueV83xs0dbc5UykZ1SnuMgKAiK02a4YsGZhXzxJMVz fHp96KNgJRNkacVEuv8s-3D), including:

• Worker Voice and Quality Jobs

Ensure the thousands of service, retail, and construction jobs the project will create pay living wages, require responsible contracting practices, and give workers a voice on the job.

• Displacement Protections and Affordable Housing

Build and fund affordable housing equal to the impact the project will have on our city, and protect renters and vulnerable communities from displacement.

• Community Centered Solutions

Engage in a transparent process to support those severely impacted by the expansion, particularly low-income communities of color, such as by providing childcare, parks, and after school programs.
