Linky (http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=31&aid=61205)

Unfortunately, I have already registered with a lot of online newspapers, so I do not know if this will help me much. I know a few people who are really annoyed with having to register to read an article from the New York Times, etc, so I decided to share this.

For those who are too lazy to read the link, here is the most important part:

use the log-in "freethepresses" and password "freethepresses" [...] For those sites that require an e-mail address instead of just a user name, use "[email protected]"

This is known to work for:

LATimes.com, NYTimes.com, ChicagoTribune.com, and WashingtonPost.com, among others...

ya, one person can register and then spread the password/login information around....which seems to me to be what one person has done :P

*bump*

Also, I used this login successfully earlier today to use the Telegraph (UK) news site...

That is extremely useful. Although I don't think it works with the Financial Times which is a shame, but it was useful for the Telegraph, although its a very right-wing newspaper.

I don’t understand why anyone who whou would visit this website would want to read the corporate media's information online anyway; shouldn’t you use your time on the internet to find more independent sources?

The corporate media does often provide some decent raw information... you just have to read analysis from someone like Noam Chomsky or connect the dots for yourself to know what it all means. There just are not enough leftist news sources to cover all the real news in the world.

That I understand but it seems like it's going a bit too far for a dissident to pay to view a mainstream news website.
