Do you believe that mystical atheism is justified or a cope out, or that indeed one can believe in spirit and soul and yet still be considered rational.

For those of you who seek my position, refer to my screename.

Very good question.

I'm not sure as to what exactly you would classify under the topic of mystical athiesm, however being athiest and believing in a soul and spirit is possible.

Again, not sure as to exactly what you classify exactly as mystical athiesm. However I am an athiest, but I can, and do believe in a soul. Whether or not a soul is part of the brain and not the body, I can believe in inner spirit and a soul of a given human.

There are things out there they have deeper meaning than what science will explain. Science has rational answers, however science can not explain all things.

While I don't believe in abnormal normalities of the Universe, as in God. I want to believe that one has a soul.

Whether or not the soul is a physical part of the brain or body, or whether the soul is not physical and merely resides in the body; something is there.

Absolutely. The most prominent example is Descartes (whose argument for the existence of the soul I totally agree with).
Rational monists have a tendancy to dismiss the soul because it's non-physical and science can't get to grips with the non-physical and their standard response to anything they can't explain is to assert that it doesn't exist.

So you believe you have a soul and its located in the pineal gland HI?

That part of descartes philosophy is bizarre at best, the pineal gland is a very small part of the brain which doesn't seem to do much. Descartes seems to be using it to explain the self invented problem of how mind and body interact.

I Don't believe in God because I don't believe that spirit exists. You know, that when we all die our sprits go to Heaven or to Hell, and we go on living forever.I don't believe in that kind of thing because it cannot be prooved it!We have no evidence at all! When and if we in future find out that all those things exist, then I'll may believe in a power(called God??).But not that This great power created the world and etc.And I''m really sad that I JUST cannot believe that souls exist.I wish I could! :(

There is evidence, just not the kind that police keep. Lets not get off topic anyway.
