As Occupation Marks 50 Years, Let's Stop the Deadly Exchange between U.S. Police Departments and the Israeli Military
This week marks 50 years since the Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Israel has used its extensive experience with subjugation of Palestinians - going back even further to 1948 - to market itself to police and military forces around the world as a "security" expert.
In March, Jewish Voice for Peace launched the Deadly Exchange (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=3e424a6f50&e=079ae7db83) campaign to end police training exchanges between the U.S. and Israel. These programs promote the exchange of “worst practices” in both countries including extrajudicial executions, shoot-to-kill policies, police murders, racial profiling, massive spying and surveillance, deportation and detention, and attacks on human rights defenders.
As we prepare ourselves to take this campaign on in Chicago, here are three events below you don't want to miss. Scroll all the way down for info on an introduction to the campaign on June 27.

The Road to Abolition: An Introduction to Prison Industrial Complex Abolition

As we take on Deadly Exchange (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=54898a7c5a&e=079ae7db83), we need to partner with and support organizations and communities that have been leading the work against policing and for real safety. That's why we're joining other organizations in co-sponsoring the Chicago Community Bond Fund (CCBF)'s event hosing Jess Healey of Critical Resistance for an introduction to prison industrial complex abolition. This workshop will be one of many leading up to a larger panel discussion in November led by Angela Y. Davis and Ruthie Wilson Gilmore. Critical Resistance is a national organization dedicated to building a movement to abolish the prison industrial complex and end our reliance on imprisonment, policing and surveillance.
This workshop is an amazing opportunity to explore the ways in which an abolitionist framework can inform our Deadly Exchange campaign, and for us to learn more about how Deadly Exchange fits into the wider work against policing and deportations.

Join us in viewing a live streamed Congressional briefing exploring 50 years of Israeli occupation and its unending, dire effect on Palestinians living in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip. Following the briefing, engage in discussion and next steps. It says a lot about the state of policing in the United States that many police departments look to the Israeli military as a guide, given the systematic incarceration of children you'll learn about at this event.
Light breakfast will be served.
